Golden State Warriors attempted to have the all-time NBA scorer and pair him up with Steph Curry but their efforts hit a snag.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and Ramona Shelburne, the Warriors reached out to the Lakers to gauge interest in trading James, but the proposition was swiftly dismissed.

The timing of the Warriors’ inquiry was strategic, as both teams found themselves grappling with challenges on the court. The Warriors, currently sitting in 10th place in the Western Conference, were on the brink of falling out of the playoff picture. The Lakers were no better because they were just one spot ahead in 9^th position.

In other words, they were also struggling to find their rhythm just like the Warriors but they had hope in James. James’ apparent frustration with the Lakers added fuel to the speculation. A cryptic tweet which he posted featuring an hourglass emoji, hinted at his impatience following a loss to the Atlanta Hawks.

Lacob decided not to contact Lakers owner Jeanie Buss based just on the hourglass tweet. He sought the counsel of Draymond Green, a Warriors player who was close to James.

James and Green have been pals for a very long time, and Green was part of Golden State’s earlier recruiting campaign for Kevin Durant. According to reports, Green was on board and texted Paul to request assistance in finding LeBron because both he and James are represented by Paul at Klutch Sports. It’s unclear how Paul answered—or if he did so at all.

In a move not typically seen between general managers, Warriors owner Joe Lacob directly contacted Lakers owner Jeanie Buss to initiate discussions. However, Buss indicated that the Lakers were not open to parting ways with James. She directed Lacob to James’ agent, Rich Paul, for further insights into the superstar’s intentions.

Despite the Warriors’ efforts to assemble a trade package, their plans hit a brick wall when Paul conveyed James’ desire to remain with the Lakers. Even the involvement of Warriors player Green, a close friend of James, failed to sway the outcome, as the Lakers remained firm in their stance.

Surprisingly, the LeBron James Warriors trade wasn’t the only expression of interest in the picture. Interestingly, Daryl Morey, President of Basketball Operations for the Philadelphia 76ers, also reached out to Lakers General Manager Rob Pelinka about James. But, he was swiftly rebuffed.

“After seeing James’ murky social media post of an hour-glass a week before the trade deadline, Philadelphia 76ers President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey called Pelinka to probe on a James trade and was immediately told that James wasn’t available. In fact, Pelinka responded by asking Morey if Joel Embiid was available, sources said. And that ended that brief conversation,” Woj and Shelburne state.

LeBron James Warriors trade was a big gamble but James and the entire Lakers leadership shot it down without a second thought. According to Ramona Shelburne and Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Warriors General Manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. made a close call 24 hours before the NBA trade deadline.

He decided to contact the Lakers in an attempt to persuade them to move James to the Warriors and pair him up with Curry. But it the request went south very fast and Lacob finally acknowledged that it was hard to convince James to move.

At 39, James only has a few more years left to play basketball and he is likely not looking for a new home. His energy and focus remain with Lakers and he is hoping to have his last dance in the NBA with his son Bronny James.
