Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr is a man on the radar as the 2023-24 NBA season enters a definitive moment.

Kerr has led the Warriors to an extraordinary path over the last ten years, winning four NBA championships in the process.

However, his current contract expires at the end of the season and he has no contract extension yet. This only raises speculation that he could be on his way out. But what does he have to say about this?

Is Golden State Warriors Coach Steve Kerr Retiring?

Far from it, Kerr is looking at a bright future with the Warriors beyond the current season as its head coach. His biggest hurdle was the team’s former general manager Bob Myers who is now out of the picture.

In contrast to speculations from various quarters, the Warriors head coach told Logan Murdock of The Ringer that he is not ready to leave.

The 58-year-old said he envisions a future for himself that is similar to the one he has been living in the Bay for the previous ten years.

“I want to be back. I’ve made that clear every time I’ve been asked about it. The only thing I won’t talk about is just any detail of contract stuff, but I’ve been very open. I want to come back. Joe told me he wants me back, so I think I’ll be back,” he said.

What Has Steve Kerr Done For Golden State Warriors?

As a strategist, visionary, and real leader, Kerr has had amazing results with the Warriors as a coach. He has had an impact on the Warriors’ ascent to prominence at every stage of the team’s development.

The NBA coach led the Golden State Warriors to five straight NBA Finals besides mentoring Steph Curry to stardom and back-to-back MVP awards.

He turned Klay Thompson into one of the league’s best shooters and two-way guards while sharpening Draymond Green’s defensive abilities.

Kerr is still as dedicated to Golden State as ever as the Warriors get closer to the later years of their dynasty. He joined Golden State Warriors in 2014 and he established himself as one of the most successful coaches in NBA history in the last decade.

The American NBA coach is known for his innovative coaching style, emphasis on ball movement, and ability to develop strong team chemistry.

Besides his marvellous work with the Warriors, he also served as the head coach of the US men’s national basketball team.

This team won a gold medal at the 2020 Olympics and he led the team to the 2023 FIBA World Cup where they finished fourth.

Does Steve Kerr Love Coaching?

Kerr admits that he loves coaching more than he loves winning. The thought of waking up to happy faces from his coaching staff and players burns an unending desire to keep going.

That is why he is fixing the eye on the prize; staying with the Warriors to the end.

“I coach an unbelievable group of guys. I love my coaching staff…I’m not here just for winning championships, I’m here because I love my job. I’m here because I love my players and coaches and love working for the Warriors. So why would I leave?”

Joseph S. Lacob who owns the team is also so fond of Kerr and they share a mutual feeling for each other’s job.

Kerr praises Lacob who he fondly refers to as Joe for the noble things he has done for the club since acquiring its ownership in 2010 for $450 million.

He also has a lot of hope and faith with Curry, Klay and Dray adding that the team is still very strong despite its season’s performance so far.

Still, some NBA analysts argue that the Warriors’ days of gunning for five consecutive NBA Finals appearances might be behind them.

But the dynasty-winning core remains intact, complemented by a young core of players.
