Serena Williams to retire after the US Open
Williams, who is 40 years old and has won 23 grand slam titles, has declared that she will end her career in the sport of tennis after the US Open, which will take place in September.
Barty, who is 26 years old, surprised everyone by announcing her retirement from tennis five months ago.
Throughout their careers, they only competed against one another twice, and on both occasions, Serena emerged victorious.
Williams prevailed against Barty, then a teenager, in the finals of the Australian Open in 2014. She won in straight sets, 6-2 and 2-1, and then went on to defeat the Australian golden child in the finals of the French Open in 2018.
After taking the opening set 6-3, Barty was defeated in three sets in their second encounter, which was a far more competitive match and reflected how much she had improved since their first meeting.
Barty stated in an interview that she did not have any regrets regarding her playing career but that she would be open to having another match against Williams to attempt to get her revenge.
Ash Barty made the surprising revelation about her new work title earlier in the week. Barty is now employed by one of the largest firms in Australia.
She has recently been promoted to the position of Chief of Inspiration at Optus. Barty has been incredibly busy since she unexpectedly announced her retirement in March, just after she won the Australian Open in a Cinderella fashion.
