  • He defeated Jannik Sinner in Turin, Italy

Following victory at the 2023 ATP Finals Novak Djokovic is the richest tennis player from this tournament.

He beat Jannik Sinner to win the ATP Masters 1000 even for the seventh time bringing his cumulative cash prize from the event at least $23 million.

The 36-year-old Serb has won the title at the competition that unites the eight greatest players in the world for the seventh time.

With the victory, he can surpass Roger Federer’s record of six titles, adding another record to his already impressive collection of accolades.

Novak Djokovic Defeats Jannik Sinner at ATP Finals

Djokovic triumphed over Jannik Sinner 6-3 and 6-3 in the 2023 ATP Finals. Sinner tried his luck to become the first player to win the ATP Finals in Turin, Italy since Andy Murray in 2016.

But the 36-year-old defeated the Italian on home ground to capture the 71st “Big Title” of his amazing career.

Rematching their match on November 15, which Sinner won in three sets, Djokovic started off by holding his serve with two aces and never looked back. It took the Serbian eighteen minutes to defeat his opponent after Sinner decided not to contest a call that he would have won.

After that, neither player allowed Sinner to earn a point over the rest of the set as Djokovic won his fifth game of the opening set. The final remaining member of the “Big Three” had a rough start.

He broke the 22-year-old right away in the opening game of the second set, demonstrating his lack of sympathy. He then held serve to take the lead two games into the following set.

As a matter of fact, Djokovic would score 14 straight points before Sinner could tie the score in the third game, behind 30-0.

In order to save things from becoming ridiculous in front of his fellow citizens, Sinner showed some life to avoid breaking in the third game of the second set. He also had an opportunity to get back into the match by earning a break point with a 40-15 lead in the fifth game.

Nevertheless, he was unable to win him over, lacking the resources to stop Djokovic’s unrelenting ascent to the top.

Djokovic easily prevailed in the match’s final game to secure yet another title in what is turning out to be a career fit for the hall of fame.

With nine attempts, Djokovic has now won seven ATP Finals, for a 77% success rate. By achieving this, he passes Roger Federer by one to own the all-time record and currently has five Finals victories more than the next player in the running, Alex Zverev.

The Serbian, who at least on talent alone may lay claim to being the greatest tennis player of all time, hasn’t lost a match since 2015. This is his first victory since 2015.

He received the trophy on Monday at the Alpitour headquarters in Turin, confirming his position as the top player for the eighth consecutive season.

Djokovic cemented his legacy among the top 8 players in the ATP Tour who take part in the inaugural ATP Finals.

The Serbian will compete to win his next championship when he plays Great Britain in the Davis Cup. However, the 2016 Wimbledon champion withdrew due to injury, thus he would not be playing his buddy and former adversary, Murray.

The match will go down on Thursday, November 23 in Malaga, Spain. Djokovic says the only thing that keeps him in tennis is a sterling career record which inspires him to keep pushing and doing it right.

So far, the world No. 1 admits that he is satisfied with the progress of his career and he would have regrets if he retires now.

The 24-time Grand Slam champion has unequivocally expressed his determination to pursue every conceivable milestone in tennis.
