2022 has been an unforgettable year for boxing fans. And things could even get better, as we expect several heavyweight fights in 2023.

This year, we have seen several boxing matches and exciting knockouts that we might never forget.

In women’s boxing, we saw Claressa Shields defeat Savannah Marshall to take the crown as the new undisputed middleweight champion.

Men’s boxing had numerous thrilling matches, and we can’t fail to mention Tyson Fury destroying Derek Chisora at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Fury has tough opponents we expect him to face next year in the heavyweight division.

Without further ado, let’s discuss some of the heavyweight fights the boxing world expects to see next year.

1. Tyson Fury v Oleksandr Usyk

Tyson Fury v Oleksandr Usyk is one of the fights many boxing fans would love to see. 2023 is the right time for the two boxing stars to face each other in the ring in an undisputed heavyweight championship match, as per WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman.

Tyson Fury v Oleksandr Usyk fight will be a tremendous fight for the whole world. The two are expected to meet for all four world heavyweight titles in 2023.

After Tyson Fury defeated Derek Chisora with a KO, it was clear that his next opponent would be Usyk. Teams from Usyk and Fury have insisted that the fights are nearing completion, and it’s just the venue selection that is remaining.

However, the fight will not take place in early 2023 because of the latest ruling made by WBA. WBA wants Tyson Fury’s next opponent to be Daniel Dubois.

2. Tyson Fury v Anthony Joshua

Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua are arguably their generation’s two best British heavyweight boxers. The two superstars have incredible records in their professional boxing careers.

Tyson Fury v Antony Joshua was supposed to take place late this year. The fight was to go down on December 3, after Joshua’s team confirmed that the boxer was ready to face Fury.

However, the fight never happened, and boxing fans expect it to go down in 2023. According to MEN Sport, Tyson Fury v Antony Joshua fight is yet to take place mainly because of Tyson Fury’s two-and-a-half-year hiatus.

3. Joe Joyce v Daniel Dubois II

The first fight between Joe Joyce and Daniel Dubois gathered a lot of attention despite being held behind closed doors.

Daniel Dubois lost the match after failing to beat the count in the 10th round. He has since bounced back strong, winning three fights.

On the other hand, Joe Joyce recently proved to be a lethal opponent as he managed to stop Joseph Parker, a former world champion.

A rematch between Joe Joyce and Daniel Dubois could be an interesting fight boxing fans can’t wait to see.

Daniel Dubois’ trainer, Shane McGuigan, said that the boxer is ready to face Joe Joyce in a rematch, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if the two meet in 2023.

4. Deontay Wilder v Anthony Joshua

Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua are yet to step into the ring and face each other. Talks between Wilder and Joshua began in 2018 for an undisputed fight.

However, the fight never happened, and the two men are now in very different positions.

Eddie Hearn, Joshua’s promoter, said that he cleared the air with Deontay’s team following previously failed talks.

Deontay Wilder v Anthony Joshua fight could take place next year as both men are in search of a picture in the world title.

5. Anthony Joshua v Dillian Whyte II

The first match between Anthony Joshua and Dillian White took place on December 12, 2015, at The O2 Arena in London, England.

Joshua won the bout to add the British title to his Commonwealth and WBC titles.

Seven years down the line, Joshua and Whyte still dislike each other. Joshua was on the ringside as Dillian Whyte recently defeated Jermaine Franklin.

However, neither Joshua nor Whyte showed real efforts for a rematch after the latter’s victory. But that does not mean that the fight could not happen in 2023.
