Speaking through a video conference with the NN Running team at his training camp in Kiptagat Kipchoge said it’ll be his sixth time to run at the Berlin Marathon and that he’s eyeing a marathon record.
The 37-year-old competed at the Berlin Marathon four years ago setting a world record of 2:1:39 and he will be looking forward to a very good race on a better time record.
“I’m thinking of running a very good race.”
Kipchoge, however, pointed out that if he won’t make it to his personal best he will accept the results.
“And if it is my personal best, I will accept it,” Kipchoge continued.
On the time record, he insisted on not committing himself to a certain time record but he’ll try to push himself to a better record.
“I don’t know how fast(I will run) but I hope to run a good race that can summarize the whole year and show the people that we need to push our human potential.”
“I always say, if you want to push yourself, come to Berlin.” He added.
He further hinted at competing at the Paris 2024 Olympics for another new title to top the titles recorded at the Rio de Janeiro in 2016 and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics saying it will be an important race for him because hell be running to make history.
“I trust I will be lining up in Paris 2024 and having a lot of energy to run to the gold medal.”
“That’s a very important thing to me because I am running to make history.” Said Kipchoge
He continued by saying he’ll be running to show and inspire the young generation that consistency is all we need for high performance.
“I am running to tell young people that consistency is what we need, for performing at a high level.”
“It’s what the world needs.”
It will be a new world record for him in view of the fact that nobody has ever won three Olympic marathon gold medals.
Kipchoge run a marathon race in Vienna in 2019 in less than two hours clocking 1:59:40:2, a time record that was not considered a world record due to its nature which was contrary to marathon competition rules i.e. pacing and provision of fluids didn’t apply.
Berlin Marathon will see more than 45,000 runners from up to 150 countries across the continent compete in the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON next Sunday (September 25, 2022) with a number of veteran Athletes looking for new marathon records.
