She hails from Kingston, the Jamaican capital. She was born on December 27 1986 and rose to fame in 2008 as the first Caribbean woman to win the 100 m gold medal at the Olympics.

A year later, she became only the third woman to win back-to-back Olympic gold medals in the 100-meter sprint. When Fraser-Pryce had her first child in 2017, she took a hiatus from athletics but would return in 2019 and scooped a gold medal.

This fete at 32 years made her a hero once more by winning this medal as a mother – the second one in history.

In the history of the 100-meter event, only Fraser-Pryce has won the title of world champion four times. In 2009, 2013, 2015 and 2019.

There are four of the five global 100 m titles she has won since 2008, as well as two of the last three Olympic 100 m crowns she has competed in, since then.

She is just the second female sprinter in history to win both the World and Olympic 100 m titles at once. For the first time in history, she became the first female sprinter to win gold medals in the 100-meter, 200-meter, and 4×100-meter relay events at the same World Championship.

She raised the Jamaica track legend together with her two brothers and worked as a street vendor. But, a young Fraser-Pryce was a gifted sprinter since she was a child.

She would run barefoot while in primary school. She won bronze in the inter-Secondary Schools Boys and Girls Championships when she was sixteen years old.

The Olympian started coaching under Stephen Francis at the University of Technology in Jamaica in 2006. At the Jamaican National Senior Championships, she placed fifth in the 100m with a time of 20.

At the European athletics circuit, the 35-year-old made her international debut. Her big break came when she finished second in the Jamaican Olympic trials for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, surprising everyone.
