Giant sportswear company Nike has put a stop to their relationship with the Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood amid ongoing interrogation by authorities.
As of Monday morning, Greater Manchester Police stated that they had been given an extension to question Greenwood after he was arrested on Sunday afternoon on suspicion of rape and violence.
Police arrested Greenwood following photos and videos posted online by a lady describing acts of physical assault, GMP states.
Nike and Manchester United have both acknowledged that Greenwood’s contract has been terminated and he will neither train nor play for the club until further notice.

“We have suspended our relationship with Mason Greenwood. We are deeply concerned by the disturbing allegations and will continue to closely monitor the situation,” Nike said in a statement.
According to a statement from the GMP a probe into the rape and assault of the woman in her 20s has been given more time by the judge to question Greenwood.
The victim according to the police is receiving specialized support.
Further, the police warned against “commentary or sharing of images that could compromise the victim’s right to lifelong anonymity, or risk prejudicing a live investigation with active proceedings.”
After he was detained on charges of rape and assault, Cristiano Ronaldo and other Manchester United stars unfollowed Greenwood.
When the police began investigating, the club initially declared it “does not condone violence of any type.”
It later said that it suspended the £75,000-a-week striker star of the team.
Besides Ronaldo, Jesse Lingard, David de Gea, and Paul Pogba to unfollowed Greenwood.
In addition, Alex Telles, Scott McTominay, and Edinson Cavani also unfollowed the striker.
Manchester United’s official Instagram account is still following the striker nevertheless.
However, Manchester United pulled down all of Greenwood’s online merchandise. The club also refused to offer him legal assistance citing that charges against him go contrary to what the club stands for.
Greenwood’s arrest comes a while after Manchester City player Benjamin Mendy freed on bail in January 2022.
The footballer was accused of rape and sexual assault. He was detention since his arrest in August 2021 for allegedly assaulting five women. He was appearing at Chester Crown Court.
Seven allegations of rape and one count of sexual assault were filed against the Frenchman. His trial was originally scheduled to begin in January, but it has been postponed to June 2022.
Judge Patrick Thompson, directed Mendy to share details of his residence address and make no contact with the complainants. He was also asked to surrender his passport.
He agreed to the terms set by the court. Mendy was remanded in September last year awaiting his trial to commence on January 24. This has since been pushed to July.

Mendy was charged alongside Louis Saha Matuirre, 40 also facing four counts of rape.
Three complainants lodged the case with the court citing the events that happened on diverse dates between October 2020 and August 2021.
One of the three complainants is under 18. She, together with the two other complainants allege they were assaulted by the player at his Prestbury home.
The alleged offences include three counts of rape said to have happened on October 11, 2020, sexual touching on 2 January last year, two counts of rape on July 24 and two counts of rape on August 23.
After his arrest in late August, the court denied him bail. He was remanded at HMP Altcourse in Liverpool.
