Wilfredo Leon is a 27 years Cuban-Polish professional volleyball player. His full byline is Wilfredo Leon Venero. He was born on 31st July 1993, in Santiago de Cuba, Cuba.

His parents are Alina Venero Boza and Wilfredo Leon Hechavarria. Leon has a height of 2.02 m. He was a player member of the Cuba men’s national volleyball team from 2007 to 2012.

Currently, Wilfredo is a member of the Poland men’s national volleyball team. He is as well an Italian club Sir Safety Perugia, silver medalist of the 2010 World Championship.

Nevertheless, Leon is a NORCECA Championship for 2009 and 2011.  He is a Cuban Championship; 2009, 2010 and 2011. Leon is as well a Russian Champion for 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018.

Professional career

Leon had his professional debut in the Cuban national team. That was on 24th May 2008, in Dusseldorf. He was the age of 14 years and 10 months by then.

Having started playing at the age of 7, his first coach was his mother who is as well a former professional golfer.

Wilfredo won the title of Best Receiver at World League 2009. He also bagged a silver medal in the World U21 Championship 2009. That was after losing the final against Brazil.

In the year 2009, the Cuban national team won the title of NORCECA Champion. That was with the help of Leon. They as well repeated the success in 2011.

In the year 2013, Leon fled Cuba to play in a club outside of his homeland. Therefore, he joined a Russian club dubbed Zenit Kazan in 2014.

With the help of Leon, Zenit Kazan has been transformed into a global force to be reckoned with.  He won three continuous CEV Champions League gold awards. That was from 2015 to 2017.

As a result, Wilfredo got the Most Valuable Player in 2015 and 2016. Additionally, he received consecutive FIVB Club World Championships silver decorations (2015-2016).

Career progress 

Locally, Zenit Kazan has overwhelmed Russia since the appearance of Wilfredo León Venero, winning 4 straight Russian Cups and 4 straight Russian Championships.

Additionally, in 2015 and 2016, Leon played part-time with Qatar club Al Rayyan. In September 2018, León joined the Italian team, SIR Safety Perugia.

On July 14, 2015, he received Polish citizenship. Interestingly, five years later he became fully eligible to play for the Polish national volleyball team.

Amazingly, Wilfredo career went to blossom the more he played. He continued making tremendous achievements and he shined globally.
