LeBron James is the oldest NBA player right now but you can’t write him off yet. He recently made history with 40,000 career points, a feat not many basketball players have achieved.
The Lakers power forward is all about making history in the NBA in his final years as a professional basketball player. James has surpassed Kareem Abdul Jabbar to take the record for the most points scored in the NBA at 39. He set this record in February 2023, during a 133-130 defeat to the Oklahoma City Thunder. With 38 points, he eclipsed Abdul-Jabbar’s 1989 record of 38,387 points.

He was first selected with the first overall pick by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2003–04 NBA Draft. He has been nothing but a great NBA player. Nicknamed “King James”, he has developed into one of the all-time greatest NBA players in history.
For James, basketball isn’t just a game; it’s a language he’s spoken fluently since childhood. “It’s more than just dribbling a ball up and down the court,” he says. “It’s about the connections you make, the lessons you learn, the challenges you overcome.”
Looking back on his illustrious career, James acknowledges the numerous accolades – the championship trophies, the MVP awards, the scoring records. Yet, he often speaks with more passion about the moments that transcended individual glory.
“Winning a championship is the ultimate goal, for sure. But the moments that truly resonate are the ones where you dig deep, push your limits, and see the work pay off.”
He recalls clutch shots, game-saving defensive plays, and the shared joy of victory with teammates who have become like family. He may be the oldest NBA player right now but he has made the world know that legacy isn’t built on statistics alone. He has taught many people that winning is also about inspiring others.
“When a young kid looks up to me and says I made them believe in themselves, that’s something I can’t take for granted,” he reflects.

Unbelievably, Hickey wasn’t even a regular player! He was the coach of the Providence Steamrollers in 1948 but he decided to suit up at the age of 45 years due to the team’s poor performance.
He played just two games, scoring a total of 2 points and committing 5 fouls before retiring again.
WHO HAS THE OLDEST ROSTER IN THE NBA?
The Los Angeles Clippers have the NBA’s oldest roster. With a few seasoned players over 30, they have an average player age of a substantial 29.1 years. This includes seasoned veterans like Marcus Morris (38) and Russell Westbrook (35), and potential Hall of Famers like Paul George (34) and Kawhi Leonard (33).
These seasoned players offer a plethora of knowledge and basketball acumen on the court. Still, certain worries remain. For senior sportsmen, maintaining optimal physical conditioning and avoiding injuries can present greater challenges. Furthermore, putting too much reliance on seasoned players may hinder the development prospects of new players.
Regardless of this, the Clippers are relying on their established players to take them to the finals. They are on focus many waiting to see if their experience balances the possible drawbacks of an aged lineup.
