Sandro Tonali fell in love with football while still a small boy. From the age of five, the youngster began taking part in training with San Rocco 80. His football talent was noticed by the local priest of San Rocco, who advised his parents to find a better academy for their son.
Tonali then had spells at Lombardia Uno and Piacenza before joining Brescia academy where he later made his senior debut.
On 26 August 2017, Sandro Tonali made his professional debut coming on as a substitute in a Serie B match against Avellino. He would then score his first senior goal before the end of the season in a 4-2 loss against Salernitana. In his first season with Brescia, he recorded 19 appearances, scoring two goals and recording two assists.

Throughout the 2018-19 season, Tonali was a starter for Brescia. The young midfielder played a significant role as his club achieved promotion to Serie A. He scored his first Serie A goal on 26 October 2019, in his side’s 3-1 defeat to Genoa.
On 9 September 2020, Sandro Tonali joined Italian football giants AC Milan on loan. He recorded 37 appearances in his debut season and impressed with his performance. As a result, Milan made his transfer permanent and he signed a five-year deal. With Milan, Sandro Tonali won the 2021-22 Serie A title.
