Friday is here and Wimbledon men’s singles semi-final matches are set to treat fans to another thrilling round of the year’s third grand slam.
It’s exciting this year for both the ATP and WTA Tours respectively. Tennis fans are already taking camps in who is likely to win the major slam this year. Here are the four Wimbledon semifinalists.
NOVAK DJOKOVIC VS JANNIK SINNER
Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic booked a date at the Wimbledon semi-final with Jannik Sinner after crushing Andrey Rublev in the quarter-final. The Serbian won the match 4-6, 6-1, 6-4, 6-3. Djokovic had earlier knocked Hubert Hurkacz out of the tournament in the fourth round to book a spot in the quarter-finals. Djokovic won 7-6 (6), 7-6 (6), 5-7, 6-4 over Hurkacz which gave him a chance to square it out with world No.7 Russian tennis player.

On the other hand, Sinner beat Russian player Roman Safiullin in the quarter-final. This is his first grand slam semi-final and the Italian means business on the grass courts of England. The matchup between Sinner and Safiullin on Court No. 1 was never going to provide a reliable predictor of how he will perform against the greatest male player in history.
Despite a blip in the second set, when he lost five straight games after leading 6-4, 3-1, he continued to hit at remarkable levels. Early breaks in the third and fourth set Sinner up for victory with scores of 6-4, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2. Victory over Sinner on these courts in 2022 pushed Djokovic to take a toilet break and have a conversation with the man in the mirror.
The 21-year-old Italian is capable of troubling Djokovic, which could sound like flimsy marketing if it weren’t so convincingly shown in the quarterfinals here last year.
CARLOS ALCARAZ VS DANIIL MEDVEDEV
Carlos Alcaraz is undoubtedly a fan favourite in winning this year’s men’s singles at Wimbledon by most likely beating Djokovic. However, getting to the semi-final meant overcoming Hulger Rune in the quarter-final. Carlos Alcaraz’s displeasure mounted during the first set of the first major matchup between the two most promising young men’s tennis players.
He was having a little trouble with his backhand, he was missing too many returns, and his rival, Holger Rune, was chasing down all of his subpar drop shots. He was extremely anxious. The world N0.1 frequently pointed to his box and occasionally yelled.
This was the first Wimbledon men’s quarterfinal encounter in the open era involving two players under the age of 21 and it deservedly attracted a lot of attention. Eventually, Alcaraz triumphed with 7-6 (3), 6-4, 6-4 victory and earned his first Wimbledon first semi-final. As his match gets underway, all eyes are on him and a common denominator in it all is a final men’s singles match with Djokovic who is defending his Wimbledon title.
Djokovic is confident of his tennis skills and he considers himself the best player to win the 2023 Wimbledon tournament.
