  • He is awaiting evaluation to know if or not he will have surgery
  • James first suffered a foot injury on February 26

Celebrated Los Angeles Lakers star player LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers could undergo surgery this offseason over a ruptured tendon in his right foot.

He is still being evaluated on whether he needs surgery or not. Should he need it, he will be out of action for two months.

James first suffered a foot injury on February 26 while playing against the Dallas Mavericks in a regular-season game.

He said “I heard it pop” while on the floor, and once the game was over, he missed a match following 13 contests.

On March 26, James returned to the court and revealed that several physicians had advised season-ending surgery.

He participated in every game for the Lakers since then, helping them advance as the No. 7 seed into the play-in tournament and ultimately to the Western Conference Finals.

James averaged 27.8 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 10 assists per game there, but the Lakers were defeated by the Denver Nuggets in a sweep.

After Game 4, he acknowledged that the injury had kept him from performing at his peak and said that he would undergo an MRI on his foot to determine his course of action.

I knew I could get to the finish line. Obviously, I knew I had to deal with it and deal with the pain or deal with not being able to be myself before the injury, but there was nothing that made me feel like I couldn’t get to the finish line,” he told ESPN later in an interview.

“I’m going to get an MRI on it and see how the tendon either healed or not healed and go from there. We’ll see what happens.”

Lakers anticipate that he will be ready for the start of training camp in 2023–24 with or without surgery.

However, after being defeated by the Denver Nuggets, the Lakers’ star offered a potential retirement suggestion in the postgame news conference.

James, who is already 38 and the all-time leading scorer in the NBA, is set to make another run to the championship game, but his potential is constrained.

Although reaching the finals wasn’t easy, he stated he isn’t sure he wants to continue and needs to think about it.

“It’s not fun to not be able to get to the finals. We’ll see what happens down the road. I don’t know. I got a lot to think about, to be honest. Just with me, personally moving forward with the game of basketball, I got a lot to think about,” Marca reports.

Considering his eldest son, Bronny James, recently graduated from high school and James’ biggest wish is to play alongside his son after an NBA draft; he may not retire. For this to happen, he needs to stick around for a few more years since Bronny is eligible for an NBA draft in 2024.
