  • Ulinzi have had a rough patch over the last five games
  • There will be five other fixtures on Saturday

Gor Mahia will take on Ulinzi Stars at the Nyayo National Stadium on Saturday in what is expected to be a blockbuster tie in the FKF Premier League. K’Ogalo are in good form this season and their current spell has seen them fly top of the FKF Premier League standings.

A run of four wins in the last five matches has seen them occupy the apex with 33 points, two ahead of Nzoia Sugar who have played a match more.

Coach Jonathan McKinstry expects a tough outing against the soldiers.

“We know they are a very fast team with fit players and it will not be an easy match. But for us, we just want to continue doing the right things like we have done so far and hope we can keep winning. What has been working for us is the rotation of the squad and as at now, everyone is fit and fresh,” said the coach.

Ulinzi have not been in the best of their form recently, having won just one of their last five, with a loss and three draws.

It is this lack of results that will drive them to try bag all three against the record Kenyan champions.

Omalla in good form

However, they should be wary of striker Benson Omalla, who has been in good form and has now scored 15 goals for Gor in 14 matches.

He will be their main man once again as they look to bag another victory to extend their lead at the top of the table.

Meanwhile, second placed Nzoia Sugar will be at home against Posta Rangers and they will be keen to win to ensure that they can take advantage of any slip up by Gor.

At the same time, Tusker FC, the defending champions, who have slipped all the way down to sixth after a tough turn of the year, will take on resurgent Mathare United at their Ruaraka Complex.

The injury ravaged brewers hope for good tidings after only picking two wins in their last nine matches.

Mathare on the other end come into the tie beaming with confidence, having won back to back matches for the first time this season. However, stand-in coach Sammy Koko knows they expect a tough outing against the brewers.

“We are going to their backyard and we expect a very tough match. But for us, we are looking at our own momentum and how we have been performing and once again we will step there and give our best to come off with three points,” said Koko.

He added that the reason for the turn in results has been due to a hard working and dedicated approach from the players, who he says have given their all straight from training.

In other fixtures lined up on Saturday, Kakamega Homeboyz host Nairobi City Stars in Bukhungu, Police FC play struggling Talanta at the Kasarani Stadium, while Wazito FC host Bandari FC at their Muhoroni backyard.
