Sources in Turkey told Sky Sports that Wout Weghorst visited the Besiktas offices on Thursday morning to sign papers so as to terminate his loan contract.
Wout Weghorst joined Besiktas on loan from Burnley at the start of this season and is now returning to England.
Besiktas were reluctant to let Wout Weghorst go, but they have decided to bow to the striker’s wishes after he made it clear that he wanted to join Manchester United.
The 30-year-old striker leaves Besiktas after scoring eight goals and registering four assists in 16 league games. His last goal for the Turkish club came in the 2-1 win over Kasimpasa on January 7. He appeared to have waved goodbye to Besiktas fans after that match.
It is understood that Manchester United will pay a loan fee and cover the player’s wages. The total amount the Red Devils will pay is around four million euros.
Goal reports that Wout Weghorst’s loan deal is not expected to include the option for a permanent transfer.
If everything goes as planned, Wout Weghorst will train with Manchester United before the weekend. He will also be available to play in their weekend fixture with rivals Manchester City.
Wout Weghorst joined Burnley 12 months ago and scored two goals in 20 games for the club. However, his efforts were not enough to prevent Burnley from being relegated. He ended up joining Besiktas on loan last summer.
Why Do Manchester United Need Wout Weghorst?
Manchester United were in the market for a player like Wout Weghorst in the summer. The Red Devils were desperate to sign a new striker this transfer window following Cristiano Ronaldo’s exit several weeks ago.
Manchester United terminated Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract following his interview with Piers Morgan.
Wout Weghorst’s impressive performance in Turkey and World Cup caught the attention of Manchester United’s scouts.
During the World Cup, Weghorst scored two late goals for the Netherlands as they levelled scores with Argentina in the quarter-finals.

He also found the back of the net in the penalty shoot-outs where Argentina eliminated his nation.
Manchester United needed to sign Wout Weghorst because he is an ideal pressing machine and would adapt to Erik ten Hag’s style of play.
The towering 6 ft 6 in attacker also provides an aerial outlet to win possession, hold up play and claim long balls.
Weghorst is also a threat in set-pieces due to his height, something which the Red Devils have lacked this season.
