- Lazio thrashed the reigning champions 4-0 to boost their chances of finishing in the top four
AC Milan lost 4-0 to a rampaging Lazio on Tuesday at the Stadio Olimpico, squandering the chance to reduce the gap on Serie A leaders Napoli.
Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Mattia Zaccagni gave the hosts the lead at halftime, handing Stefano Pioli’s team their first loss in seven league games.
After the break, Luis Alberto added a third from the penalty spot, and Felipe Anderson completed the scoring, preventing the Rossoneri from winning for the sixth straight match in all competitions.

In the second half, Milan’s poor defence once again proved to be their undoing. Pierre Kalulu’s penalty kick for bringing down Pedro led to a Lazio goal, which Luis Alberto blasted past Ciprian Tatarusanu.
Anderson scored following a deft pass from Luis Alberto to further humiliate Pioli’s team as Milan faced an embarrassing loss.
Milan title charge taking a big blow
Milan won the Serie A championship for the first time in 11 years last season, but as Napoli’s quest to end their own title drought picks up steam, it seems more and more possible that Milan will have to wait another 11 years before they can win it again.
With just three shots on goal and 0.75 anticipated goals compared to Lazio’s 3.04, Milan were clearly outmatched in this match. Provedel also had a comparatively simple time in goal.
Zaccagni stars again

Lazio talisman Ciro Immobile is still out with a thigh injury, so Zaccagni came up once more with another goal to give his team the victory.
No Lazio player generated more opportunities (two) and won more successful duels (11) than Zaccagni, who also added an assist to his goal. Zaccagni was a persistent menace down the left.
Tomori adds to Milan’s injury list
With Milan trailing 1-0, Tomori was taken off in the 24th minute, and the rest of the game saw his club struggle to play solid defence.
Lazio won 17 of 26 tackles, while Milan won eight of their 16 attempts. The home team could have, and arguably should have, scored more goals than the four they did.
Both teams are back in Serie A action on Sunday, when Milan host struggling Sassuolo and Lazio welcome 11th-placed Fiorentina.
