The Liverpool duo of John Barnes and Ian Rush and England’s Paul Gascoigne were his childhood soccer idols.  Although Gerrard was not Catholic and did not live within the school’s catchment area, he opted to attend Cardinal Heenan Catholic High School. This was because of the school’s stellar reputation on the football field, as recommended by his elementary school teacher, whose husband taught physical education there.

He tried out for several teams when he was fourteen, but he never made the cut for the England youth national team. According to his memoirs from 2006, he tried out for Manchester United to persuade Liverpool into handing him a Youth Training Scheme contract.”

On November 5, 1997, he signed his first professional deal with Liverpool, and this was the start of Steven Gerrard net worth.

CAREER

Substituting for Robbie Fowler in the second half of the Merseyside derby, he received his first career red card for a challenge to the upper leg of Everton’s Kevin Campbell.

However, he developed chronic back pain in his teenage years, which sports consultant Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt later attributed to his rapid growth and extensive playing.

Gerrard started fifty games across all competitions in 2000-01, when he also scored 10 goals. He scored in the UEFA Cup final as Liverpool won all three major trophies that season: the FA Cup, the Football League Cup, and the UEFA Cup.

Against Manchester United in the Football League Cup Final in March of 2003, Gerrard scored the first goal, which ultimately led to a 2-0 victory for his team.

Gerrard’s signing with the LA Galaxy of Major League Soccer (MLS) on January 7, 2015 was announced as a Designated Player contract for 18 months. The deal reportedly cost $9 million. On November 24 at 36 years, he decided to end his professional football career.
