He later on visited the Wangapala Primary School where he gave a motivational talk to the students, including exploring possible ways of partnering with his Academy, whose basic tenets are education and football.

MOFA, which is situated in Olunga’s home area of Othoro, trains and nurtures talent from U10 to U18.

“Thank you KenGen Kenya for hosting MOFA in a series of friendlies,” Olunga posted on his official social media accounts.

The Qatari Premier League has gone on break to give the national team time to prepare for the World Cup as well as make room for the stadia to be prepared for the global extravaganza which kicks off in under three weeks.

Olunga has been in sizzling form in Qatar this season and is currently the top scorer in the Emir Cup.

He has 18 goals in 19 matches this season including five in seven Super League matches, Seven in three Super Cup matches which includes two hatricks and four more in five Champions League matches.

“It has been due to hard work and resilience. I am thankful to God for starting the season this way. Of course it was not easy to settle down when I first moved here but once I did, things started working well for me. I am happy to have started the season very well and hopefully I can clinch the golden boot again,” Olunga said in a previous interview.

The star striker clinched the Qatari Premier League golden boot last season, and was in the running for the Player of the Season where he finished second.

He moved to Qatar from Japan where he starred with Kashiwa Reysol, finishing as the league’s top scorer and the Most Valuable Player in his last season.

Olunga who has previously played for Thika United, Tusker FC and Gor Mahia in Kenya is one of the highest paid players in Kenya with a reported Sh5mn a month-salary back in Qatar.

His move to Qatar had been heavily criticized by fans who believed it would not offer him a bigger challenge, and he needed to play in Europe to progress his career. He has previously played for FC Girona in Spain, having started his pro career in Sweden with Djugarden.

Olunga however looked at the bigger picture to secure his future as opposed to making mega moves for less money.
