India announces squad for T20 World Cup 2022
- The All-India Senior Selection Committee met on Monday to pick the squad that will represent India at the T20 World Cup in Australia.
- Rohit Shama will captain the 15-man squad for T20 World Cup. The same players who were named on Monday by BCCI will also represent India in the T20I series.
The ICC T20 World Cup 2022 tournament is set to commence next month. On Monday, BCCI announced the squad that will represent India at the competition.
Rohit Shama is set to captain India at the tournament, which will take place in Australia. The vice-captain will be KL Rahul.
Other players in India’s squad are Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Hooda, Axar Patel, Arshdeep Singh, Harshal Patel, B Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, R. Ashwin, R Panta, Y Chahal and Dinesh Karthik (WK).
Reserve players are Mohammed Shami, Shreyas Iyer, Ravi Bishnoi and Deepak Chahar. The squad will also represent India at home in the T20I series against Australia and South Africa.
India’s World T20 squad is a leap of faith with experiments inconclusive. The players have not shown good performance in recent games. Their performance at the Asia Cup 2022 was wanting.
India lost back-to-back matches against Sri Lanka and Pakistan in the super four round. And that resulted in their elimination in the early stages of the tournament.
India’s batting is on second gear, as per observations. The players are not at their best, and that could result in their attack being taken apart by opponents.
Hardik Pandya is India’s main hope at the T20 World Cup. The superstar will be cotton-wooled at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore when the rest of the Indian players will be facing South Africa and Australia.
