  • Carlos Alcaraz is now the youngest world No. 1 player in men’s tennis. The Spanish international set the record after beating Casper Ruud in the 2022 US Open final.
  • Carlos Alcaraz said after his victory that he always dreamed of becoming the number one in the world.

Carlos Alcaraz impressed tennis fans with his performance at the US Open. After his triumph, the Spanish international became the youngest world No. 1 in men’s tennis.

Carlos Alcaraz rose to the top spot in the ATP ranking after beating Casper Ruud 6-4, 2-6, 7-6(1) 6-3 in the US Open 2022 final.

Ruud did not succeed in his attempt to become Norway’s first Grand Slam champion. The Norwegian international had also previously lost to Rafael Nadal at the French Open this year.

Speaking after his victory at Arthur Ashe Stadium, Carlos revealed that he has always wanted to be number one in the world since his childhood days.

The 19-year-old also said that he made tough decisions and put in hard work with his family and team.

“This is something I dreamed of since I was a kid, to be the number one in the world, to be the champion at a grand slam. All the hard work that I did with my team, with my family.” Carlos Alcaraz said.

Carlos is the youngest man to win a major title since Rafael Nadal did so in 2005 at the French Open. He is also the youngest winner at the US Open since Pete Sampras in 1990 at the age of 19.

Carlos consolidated his position at the top of the list of 2022 Wins Leaders in the ATP tour. The 19-year-old, who got his 51st win on Sunday, is followed by Stefanos Tsitsipas, who has 46 wins.

Apart from becoming the youngest world No.1 in men’s tennis, Carlos Alcaraz also set several other records during his victory over Casper Ruud.

Carlos Alcaraz is the fourth Spaniard to top the ATP list after Rafael Nadal (22), Carlos Moya (22) and Juan Carlos (23).

The Spanish international also set the record for the most time spent on the court by a competitor in a Grand Slam tournament. Carlos spent 23 hours and 39 minutes on court during his victory.

He surpassed Kevin Anderson, who previously set the record at the 2018 Wimbledon by spending 23 hours and 20 minutes on the court.

Carlos Alcaraz also beat Leyton Hewitt’s record of youngest player to move to the top spot in the ATP rankings. Carlos tops the ranking at 19 years and 129 days. The previous record stood at 20 years and 266 days.

Since Stefan Edberg in 1992, Carlos is the youngest player to win a Slam after five-setter ties in the last 16, quarter-finals and semi-finals.

Carlos, the youngest world No .1 in men’s tennis, has won at least one set in 65 consecutive matches. Since his last straight sets defeat to Hugo Gaston, the Spaniard is now 55-9. Carlos suffered the defeats at the 2021 Paris Masters.
