  • They have both signed two year contracts
  • The bankers have also signed Francis Kahiro and Keeper Bryne Omondi

KCB have beaten defending champions Tusker FC to the signing of midfielder Danson Chetambe and left back Harun Mwale ahead of the new FKF Premier League season.

Both Mwale and Chetambe had trained with Tusker in the first two weeks of pre-season training, but KCB hijacked the deal as the brewers delayed in tying the duo to a contract. Chetambe was released by Coastal side Bandari FC while Mwale’s contract with military side Ulinzi Stars had run out.

The bankers are on a mission to strengthen the side after a disastrous campaign last season.

“I am really pleased to join KCB. When they placed the offer on the table I was immediately attracted to it and with the plan the coach has. This is a team that wants to fight for the title and for me, it is a huge challenge and one I am ready to take on,” Mwale said after being unveiled by the club.

Everyone welcomed him well

He added; “The players, coaches and officials have really welcomed me well at the club and I feel at home. It has not been hard getting to settle and accustoming myself with the demands of the coach. I understand the pressure that playing with this club comes with and I am ready to deliver. I am up to the task.”

Mwale will come in as a new left back for the club, having lost the experienced Dennis Odhiambo who chose not to renew his contract with the club. He will offer competition to Hillary Wandera who joined them mid last season from Tusker FC.

Meanwhile, the club has also brought on board goalkeeper Bryne Omondi who has left Mathare United. Omondi has previously played for Tusker and Posta Rangers FC.

Fight for a regular starting slot

The shot stopper says he wants to come in and fight for a regular starting slot at the club, acknowledging that the team offers stability and will be a good opportunity for him to perform well.

“This is a club that I am really happy and excited to join. It is a huge challenge but I am ready for it. I know there will be stiff competition but it is good for me because I want to be better. I am here to work hard and help the team achieve its goals,” Omondi said.

Also joining the club is striker Francis Kahiro who has been snapped from FC Talanta. Kahiro was a hit in Talanta’s maiden season in the FKF Premier League and coming at a time when the bankers struggled for goals, his acquisition will be a massive plus.

KCB struggled to get goals beyond Derrick Otanga who scored 12 times last season and with Kahiro coming in, he will offer alternatives and a more lethal forward line.

Under the tutelage of Coach Zedekiah “Zico” Otieno, the bankers finished 7th during the 2021/2022 season after bagging 49 points. Zico admits he is still in the process of beefing up his squad with an eye to clinching its maiden KPL title.
