Barcelona complete registration of Lewandowski and other five players
- Barca have completed the registration of their summer signings ahead of their first 2022-23 La Liga fixture on Saturday.
- Jules Kounde is the only player who is yet to be registered. However, the Frenchman will be registered before September 1.
FC Barcelona have finally completed the registration of summer signings Robert Lewandowski, Frank Kessie, Andreas Christensen and Raphinha ahead of their first La Liga match of the 2022-23 season.
The Catalans have also received the green light in time for Ousmane Dembele and Sergi Roberto, who renewed their contracts several weeks ago. Xavi is confident of his current squad and believes they can compete for titles.
Barcelona bought Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha this summer transfer window from Bayern Munich and Leeds United, respectively. The Catalans then signed Franck Kessie and Andreas Christensen for free. Kessie joined from AC Milan, whereas Christensen joined from Chelsea.
Barcelona were unable to register their new players due to La Liga financial regulations. The regulations also prevented Barca from registering Ousmane Dembele and Sergi Roberto, who recently renewed their contracts.
However, the Catalans have raised funds through several economic levers. The levers involved selling shares of their media production unit Barca Studios and future television rights. The La Liga giants sold an additional 24.5% of Barca studios for 84.6 million euros on Friday to raise more funds.
Jules Kounde is the only new player who is yet to be registered before the start of the 2022-23 La Liga season on Saturday. Kounde, who joined the club two weeks ago, isn’t expected to make an appearance for FC Barcelona this weekend.
The former Sevilla centre-back just came back from groin surgery a few days ago and has not done enough training to be fit for Saturday’s match against Rayo Vallecano.
The Catalans will need to free up more of its wage bill to register Jules Kounde before the end of this month. According to Barcelona’s website, the club is confident that Jules Kounde will be registered before September 1.
Barcelona, who are in a financial crisis, are still struggling to race more funds so as to sign new players before the summer transfer window is closed.
The La Liga giants are interested in Chelsea left-back Marcos Alonso. Barca and Marcos Alonso reportedly agreed to personal terms, and it’s just a matter of time before the Catalans sign the talented left-back.
FC Barcelona also wants to release some players from their squad. Martin Breathwaite is one of the players Barca wants to offload this summer. However, the striker does not want to leave due to the wages that are owed to him by Barcelona.
The Catalans could earn more revenue if they sell Frenkie de Jong this summer transfer window. However, they owe the talented midfielder 17 million euros which must be settled before he joins a new team. Manchester United and Chelsea are interested in Frenkie de Jong and are monitoring the player’s situation at Barca.
