Ballon d’Or Power Rankings for July

The Ballon d’Or is the most prestigious individual award in football. France Football changed the rules for Ballon d’Or voting in March.

According to the new rules, France Football will award the winner based on a single season’s performance rather than a calendar year. The 2022 Ballon d’Or award race is shaping up nicely after the end of the 2021-22 season. The 2022 Ballon d’Or award winner will be announced on October 17. 

This article will look at the Ballon d’Or Power Rankings for July. 

10. Lionel Messi

Lionel Messi is one of the greatest footballers the world has ever seen. The Argentine international ranks tenth in this month’s Ballon d’Or Power Rankings. 

Lionel Messi didn’t have an ideal debut season at Paris Saint-Germain. The former FC Barcelona man struggled to impress last season. He scored 11 goals and provided 15 assists for PSG across all competitions. 

The playmaker was the man of the match as Argentina defeated Italy to lift the CONMEBOL-UEFA Cup of Champions.

It is very unlikely that Messi will win the 2022 Ballon d’Or. 

9. Luka Modric

Luka Modric was sensational for Real Madrid last season. The playmaker’s contribution last season helped Real Madrid win the La Liga and the UEFA Champions League. 

The midfield maestro scored three goals and provided 12 assists for Real Madrid across all competitions last season. Modric played a crucial role as Real Madrid eliminated Paris Saint-Germain in the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League. 

8. Kevin De Bruyne

Kevin De Bruyne is one of the best midfielders of his generation. The Belgian international played a crucial role as Manchester City won the English Premier League and reached the finals of the UEFA Champions League. 

Kevin De Bruyne was scoring goals and providing assists for his teammates at Manchester City. The midfielder scored 19 goals and provided 14 assists for the Cytizens last season. 

De Bruyne, who won the Premier League Player of the Season, ranks eighth for this year’s Ballon d’Or. 

7. Son Heung-Min

Son Heung-Min is one of the most underrated forwards in Europe. The South Korean international was the best player for Tottenham Hotspurs last season. 

Son scored 24 goals and provided ten assists for the Spurs during the 2021-22 season. He shared last season’s Premier League Golden Boot with Mohamed Salah. 

His brilliant performance ranks him seventh for this year’s Ballon d’Or. 

6. Mohamed Salah

Mohamed Salah began the 2021-22 season on a very high note. He was the best player in Europe’s top five leagues at the start of last season. 

However, things changed for Salah in the second half of the campaign. The Egyptian, however, managed to score 31 goals and provide 16 assists for Liverpool across all competitions last season. He shared the Premier League Golden Boot with Son Heung-Min. 

Salah reached the finals of the AFCON tournament with Egypt but finished as runner-up. 

5. Vinicius Jr. 

Vinicius Jr. was at his best last season. The Brazilian attacker was on form last season as Real Madrid won the La Liga and the UEFA Champions League. 

Vini scored 22 goals and provided 20 assists last season. His stellar performance ranks him fifth on Ballon d’Or Power Rankings. 

4. Kylian Mbappe

Kylian Mbappe is arguably the best forward in the world at the moment. It is not a surprise to see the Frenchman on top of the list of players likely to win the 2022 Ballon d’Or award. 

Kylian scored 39 goals and provided 26 assists for PSG last season. He won the 2021-22 Ligue One Golden Boot and was also the leading assist provider in the league. 

3. Robert Lewandowski

Robert Lewandowski has been the best striker in Europe for several years now. The Polish striker won the European Golden Shoe last season after scoring 35 goals in the Bundesliga. 

The new Barcelona signing scored 50 goals and provided seven assists for Bayern Munich last season. However, his chances of winning this year’s Ballon d’Or are low because he only won the Bundesliga last season. 

2. Sadio Mane

Sadio Mane is another player who struggled in the first half of last season. However, the Senegalese forward was the talk of town towards the end of the season. 

Mane scored 23 goals and provided five assists as Liverpool won the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup. He was also crucial as Senegal won the AFCON tournament early this year. 

Mane was named the African Footballer of the Year a few days ago.

His excellent form at the UEFA Champions League is one of the main reasons he might win the Ballon d’Or this year.
