- Mario Balotelli, Alvaro Morata and Alexis Sanchez are among the worst Premier Leagues transfers of all time
- Hargreaves was one of United most disappointing signings as he made 27 appearances and only scored two goals in four years
- A World Cup champion by accident! Shkodran Mustafi has been one of the worst defenders in the Premier League in recent years
Modern football requires a high level of business skills. Doing successfully in the transfer market is part of that.
However, having a large sum of money in your pocket can lead to reckless spending.
The Premier League is and has been the best league in the world for many years, and practically every footballer aims to play in England, but not all of those who achieve that goal is successful.
In this post, we will discuss the ten worst transfers in Premier League history.
Value for money, longevity, legacy, individual performance, and the level of letdown from expectations are among the criteria considered to select the players.
10. EMMANUEL ADEBAYO

Arsenal, Manchester City, and Tottenham Hotspur were all teams Adebayor played for.
However, his transfer to Crystal Palace was unusual and worse than planned (which was terrible).
Football fans will remember him for his celebratory run at Etihad Stadium after scoring against his previous team, Arsenal, while playing for Manchester City.
Adebayor claimed that signing for Crystal Palace was his worst mistake, as he only scored one goal in 15 appearances
9 LUCAS PEREZ
Arsenal has a history of making blunders when it comes to transfers. Lucas Perez is one of them.
The Gunners paid Deportivo La Coruna £17.1 million for the Spanish striker.
His tenure at Arsenal was a failure after a fantastic season with the Spanish team, where he scored 18 goals in 37 appearances.
In 11 appearances, the Spaniard managed only one goal.
West Ham spent £13 million less for him than their opponents.
8. HENRIKH MKHITARYAN

Alexis Sanchez and Henrikh Mkhitaryan were traded for each other.
Manchester United paid £30 million for him in 2016 because of his record at Borussia Dortmund.
He scored 23 goals in 90 games for Dortmund before joining Manchester United, where he scored FIVE goals in 39 appearances.
After four successful seasons at Arsenal, Manchester United demanded a swap between Mkhitaryan and Alexis Sanchez.
At Arsenal, the Armenian didn’t do much better
7. ALEXIS SANCHEZ

As previously stated, Alexis Sanchez was part of a Henrikh Mkhitaryan-Alexis Sanchez transfer between Arsenal and Manchester United.
With 60 goals in 122 games for Arsenal, he contributed to the squad winning two FA Cups – virtually a goal every other match.
Manchester United needed a winger, and his time with their rivals enticed them to make a purchase, so they offered the Armenian National Team captain in a trade.
Even today, fans aren’t sure who got the worst deal.
In 32 appearances for the Red Devils, the Chilean only scored THREE goals.
6. ELIAQUIM MALANGA

Eliaquim Mangala joined Manchester City from Porto in 2014 for a whopping £42 million cost, which is a lot for a defender.
Mangala only won the Premier League once, and it was because he was loaned to Everton when they won the other Premier League championship.
He only had two assists in 59 Premier League appearances and did not score a single goal.
Mangala returned to his former club Valencia on a free transfer in 2019.
5. ALVARO MORATA
Alvaro Morata is one of the most overrated strikers in the game. He possesses no distinctive abilities.
Chelsea chose to spend astronomically in the 2016/17 season while he was enjoying a regular season at Real Madrid.
Chelsea paid £60 million for the Spaniard, but he only scored 16 goals in 47 games, falling short of expectations.
4. SHKODRAN MUSTAFI
By chance, He became a World Cup champion! Shkodran Mustafi has been one of the Premier League’s worst defenders.
In 2016, Arsenal paid £35 million for him, but he did more harm than good for the London club.
Mustafi had a reputation for making mistakes during his time at Arsenal.
3. MARIO BALOTELLI

Mario Balotelli joined Liverpool in 2014 to replace Luis Suarez, which is ironic. But he made it clear from the start that he wasn’t the one.
“He was the last choice of strikers to replace Luis Suarez,” Brendan Rodgers stated, and SuperMario has only one Premier League goal in roughly 1000 minutes for the Reds.
The Italian was one of the reasons Brendan Rodgers was fired, and when Jurgen Klopp took over, Balotelli was not on his agenda.
He signed a free contract with Nice, a French club.
2. OWEN HARGREAVES
After a year of talks between Manchester United and Bayern Munich, the Germans opted to trade him in 2007 for £23 million.
According to his memoirs, Hargreaves was one of Alex Ferguson’s most disappointing signings, as he only played for them for four years, making only 27 appearances and scoring two goals.
The English international only played one game for City before retiring at 30.
1. NICOLAS PEPE

Almost every player in modern football, including centre backs, possesses outstanding dribbling ability.
On the other hand, Arsenal appears to have been fooled by Nicolas Pepe’s abilities.
They spent a lot of money (£72 million) on a player who struggled with consistency and didn’t have the necessary pace for the high-intensity games in the Premier League. Pepe still has much to show, but is he losing it all?
