Leicester City has officially announced the signing of left-back Ryan Bertrand after penning down a two-year deal at Leicester.

The English international left Southampton after getting out of contract and has been a free agent since the end of last season in May, bringing an end to a seven-year career at South Coast.

Bertrand made more than 200 appearances for the Saints and almost won the first Silverware for the saints in this century when they advanced to the EFL Cup finals in 2017, they, however, lost the finals to Manchester United.

Last season, he had a splendid start to the season with the saints in the top seven of the EPL log in December, although a poor run of form between January and February made sure Saints finished the season 15th on the Premier League table.

Bertrand previously played for 2021 UEFA Champions League winners Chelsea, winning the UEFA Champions League in 2012, the UEFA Europa League in 2013, and the Emirates FA Cup in 2012.

Announcing the signing on its official website, Leicester city wrote, “Experienced left-back Ryan Bertrand has signed for Leicester City Football Club on a two-year deal, keeping him at King Power Stadium until at least 2023.”

“The 31-year-old joins the Foxes on a free transfer after seven seasons with Southampton, where he made 240 appearances in all competitions.”

The Club went on to say, “An England international with 19 caps, Bertrand made his top-flight debut as a Chelsea player, where he would help the team lift the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, and Emirates FA Cup.”

Speaking after the announcement the 31-year-old said, “I’m really happy to be here; joining Leicester really complimented my inner ambitions and what I still want to achieve in my career, Leicester has built something amazing over the years, especially since Brendan Rodgers has come in. It’s fantastic to be a part of this fantastic club and I’m going to give my all to try and do the fans proud.”

The left-back has already started training with the foxes this preseason ahead of the Premier League 2021/2022 season set to kick off in August.
