Kenya women’s basketball team to resume training sessions

Kenya women’s basketball team is set to return to training sessions ahead of Cup qualifiers.

The basketball team were scheduled to kick start their training sessions last weekend but due to a government ban, they will start this Friday.

Officials from the Sport and Health ministries are expected to meet and announce the new guidelines as sporting activities resume around the country according to Sports Principal Secretary Joe Okudo.

The basketball team expects all foreign-based players called up for the upcoming Fiba AfroBasket qualifiers to start arriving in preparation for the event.

US-based Victoria Atieno Reynolds is expected to make her national debut alongside Brenda Adhiambo Wasuda who will represent Kenya for her first time.

All the players who received their call-up over two weeks ago have also confirmed their availability.

The Cup qualifiers are scheduled for July in Cairo, Egypt.

Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) Treasurer Peter Orero affirmed that the first training sessions will begin in Nairobi.

“The ladies are itching to go. They cannot wait to start preparing for Fiba AfroBasket qualifiers due in Cairo. We are looking to reclaim the top spot in Zone Five after losing the overall title to Uganda in 2019,” Orero said.

He mentioned that the team’s management will observe all health protocols from the ministries of Health and Sport.

“We just have to start. We have a young new team that is hungry for success but it must be given the best preparation if we are to reclaim our place in African women’s basketball especially after the recent exploits by Kenya Morans team,” Orero added.
