Former Cameroon player Feutmba pays tribute to Sundowns - Sports Leo

Former Cameroon footballer Roger Feutmba has looked back on his years with top SA side Mamelodi Sundowns, paying tribute to the club on Africa Day on Monday.

Feutmba, now aged 51, in the midfield, was influential in Sundowns winning three consecutive SA Premiership titles, starting in 1997.

Feutmba joined the Brazilians after the Nelson Mandela Challenge in 1994, a move the Cameroonian recalls fondly.

“When Sundowns contacted my club in Belgium, I did not think twice about Sundowns because I knew about the club,” Feutmba told sundownsfc.co.za.

“We had good players such as Raphael Chukwu, Lovers Mohlala, Alex Bapela, Joel “Fire” Masilela, Eric Ramasike, and Charles Motlhohi.”

The Cameroonian made a considerable contribution to the history of the club, and shared some of his memories with the club he still supports to this day.

“I worked in this beautiful land many years ago and I was welcomed, by my teammates who showed me a great amount of love.”

“They gave me the strength to take out of me the huge potential I had. I greatly contributed to the goal and to the success of the Mamelodi Sundowns Football Club.”

“Like I always said, no matter how great you may be as an individual, football is a collective game, and as a team we managed to achieve a lot together.

“There is also the fact that Sundowns then was characterized by its strong brotherhood spirit. We laugh together, we cry together. We support each other in difficult times and that gives us the strength to go out there and get the result we wanted.”
