Egypt Football Association postpones premier league games - Sports Leo

The game between Al Ahly and Zamalek, which was meant to take place on Monday as part of the Egyptian Premier League (EFA) schedule, has been postponed to an undisclosed date.

Kingfut reported that Al Ahly were initially supposed to play Zamalek club ENPPI in the Egyptian Premier League on Wednesday according to the EFA’s league schedule released at the beginning of the season.

However, the decision to postpone the games was due to consideration that both clubs play in the Championships League a week later. The Champions League is an annual continental club football competition run by the Confederation of African Football (Caf).

Al Ahly (the Red Devils) is currently the Egyptian Premier League leader with 33 points after 11 games played.

The rivalry between Zamalek SC and Al Ahly SC goes back years and culminates in the annual Cairo Derby where the two, arguably the most successful clubs in Egypt and Africa, face-off.

Ahly and Zamalek were named by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) as the first and second African Clubs of the 20th Century respectively.

Both teams are located in Greater Cairo and their matches are considered the highlight of the football season with a live broadcast to most of the Middle Eastern and North African countries since the 1970s.

Usually, the derby is played twice each season with two matches in the Egyptian Premier League, but it is not uncommon to find the teams meeting each other in the Egypt Cup, especially in the final, and in Africa’s most prestigious club competition, the CAF Champions League.
