A new R100 000 prize money tennis tournament – The Pro Kennex International Premier Challenge – will be held in East London from January 8 to 12.
The event will be hosted at Selbourne Park in East London and is open to boys, girls, men and women across five age group categories – Under-10, Under-12, Under-14, Under-16 and open.
The tournament is endorsed by Tennis SA and Tennis Eastern Cape and is being hosted by KM Sports.
Tournament director Kaya Majeke, of KM Sports, believes the new prize money event will create a fresh impetus for tennis in the Eastern Cape.
“It’s important for us to continually improve on the growing tennis offering we have in South Africa, to ensure there are more opportunities for our emerging young players and more opportunities for fans to get to see them in their hometowns,” said Majeke.
“This tournament is a vital piece of my vision to ultimately grow tennis and provide inspiration for future generations, right here in the Eastern Cape.
“A big thank you to our partners – Eastern Cape Sports Department, Buffalo City Metro Municipality, Premier Hotel Group, SuperSport, Keith Ngesi online radio, Pro Nutrition and not forgetting Pro Kennex who will provide goodie bags to all participants.
“We thank them for their generous contributions in making this tournament possible.”
