South Sudan defeated Zanzibar Queens 5-0 in their second Group A match at the Cecafa Senior Women’s Challenge Cup tournament at the Chamazi Stadium, Tanzania, on Monday.

It was quite a comeback for South Sudan who suffered a 9-0 humiliating defeat to hosts Tanzania in the opening game over the weekend.

South Sudan took a 2-0 halftime lead after Amy Lasu Luaya scored in the 24th minute and Zanzibar’s skipper Abdallah Mwajuma made it 2-0 with an own goal.

In the second half, it was one-traffic as South Sudan added three more goals. South Sudan skipper Esther Luiz Elis netted the third goal before Chieng Thomas Manyol Riek and Lasu rounded off the scoring in the match.

Simon James Yor, the South Sudan coach, was pleased that his team bounced back in their second group match after their 9-0 pasting. “This is a learning process for us,” said the coach.
