Uruguay international Edinson Cavani has agreed to join Boca Juniors on a free transfer, Fabrizio Romano reports. Cavani has accepted the conditions of a verbal agreement and will soon sign contract as new Boca Juniors player.
Cavani had an uncertain future at Valencia, as he showed inconsistent performances last season. The forward failed to score a single league goal in 2023. However, this is mainly due to the fact that he fell out of favour with manager Ruben Baraja, who constantly overlooked him. Baraja became manager of the the La Liga club at the start of this year.

According to reports, Cavani and Valencia agreed to part ways this summer. Boca Juniors, who have long been interested in signing the player, immediately began showing interest after the reports. They had reportedly issued an ultimatum to Cavani to sort his situation with Valencia as soon as possible.
The Argentine football team sent Cavani a formal proposal a few days ago and are now closing on a deal to sign him. It is reported that Cavani’s contract with Boca Juniors will be valid until December 2024.
Boca Juniors will try to exercise patience in their pursuit for Cavani to avoid a repetition of last year’s occurrence. The club’s fans prematurely anticipated Cavani’s signing, resulting in a misguided trip to the airport to welcome the player.
Cavani, a former Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United star has now reached the ebb of his career, and his best years are behind him. However, that does not take away the fact that he is arguably one of the best strikers of his generation.
The move to Boca Juniors could help Edinson Cavani get back to the groove and keep himself in shape ahead of next year’s Copa America. Despite being 36, Cavani is still representing the Uruguay national team at international level. Since making his senior appearance in 2008, Cavani has earned 136 caps with the national team, scoring 58 goals.
