Mainoo was forced to withdraw from the match and flew to the UK where there will be a further assessment of his injury. Afterwards, medical decisions on the next steps will take place.
Mainoo had posted a message on his Instagram account saying, “I’ll be back stronger and in no time. Thanks for your messages of support.” Mainoo’s post had messages of support from fans and colleagues such as club captain Bruno Fernandes and Alejandro Garnacho.
Kobbie Mainoo had shown great performances and impressed many fans during the US tour before suffering an ankle injury. Manager Erik ten Hag made a promise to the youngster that more playing time will come his way during the 2023-24 season while giving an update on his injury a few days ago.
“So, hopefully, it’s not too bad and then chances will come. I wanted to see what levels he could play. Against Arsenal, we were pleased with his performance. I wanted to see if he could repeat that, some days after, from then, we would have conclusions. First, we have to wait for the diagnosis and, from there on, we will set conclusions.” Erik ten Hag said, as per Manchester United’s official website.

Manchester United To Push For A New Midfielder
With Kobbie Mainoo expected to miss the first part of the 2023-24 season due to injury, Manchester United have no option but to push for a new midfielder this summer.
According to the Mirror, Manchester United are weighing up a £30 million move for Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat. The Morocco international impressed many during the 2022 World Cup and has been on the radar of top European clubs.
However, United may need to sell some of their players before signing Amrabat. The Red Devils have already released Alex Telles and Anthony Elanga to Al Nassr and Nottingham Forest, respectively. Eric Bailly, Donny van de Beek, Fred and Dean Henderson have been told they are free to leave.
For Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay to leave, the Red Devils want the right money. According reports last evening, Manchester United rejected a £20 million bid for Harry Maguire as they want more. The England international has two years left on his contract with the Premier League giants.
