When she announced her retirement in August 2022, she cited focusing on expanding her family and now, Serena Williams is pregnant with her second baby.

Months after her retirement, an excited Williams told the world at the 2023 Met Gala ceremony on May 1 that she was expecting a second baby.

She flaunted a noticeable baby bump as she walked the red carpet with her husband Alexis Ohanian at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.

Her first child named Alexis Olympia Jr is turning seven and she is excited that she will finally have a playmate.

While announcing her retirement from tennis, the 23-time Grand Slam singles champion claimed said that her exit from tennis is a step towards achieving her personal goals.

She told Vogue that she was ready to have more kids and focus on her businesses having given tennis her all.

When she announced her pregnancy at the Met Gala Awards, it took many in awe because she kept her word.

Serena indirectly admitted to being pregnant while speaking with La La Anthony on a Vogue livestream a few weeks back.

She said that they appeared three people for the live stream while it was only her and Alexis. But, many thought she was speaking of her, Alexis and Ohanian.

However, Alexis and La La happily committed to getting a drink in her honour after she noted that there were three persons there for the interview.

Back at the Met Gala in New York, she donned a striking black dress hugging her curvaceous body and a baby bump in the show.

A lavish white tulle skirt that trailed behind her flared out from the bottom of the dress. Although her dress had a plunging, bejewelled collar that showed off her cleavage, she covered it with several thick strands of pearls draped around her neck.

She wore a stunning blond haircut and covered her hair with a majestic jewelled headband. Alexis chose to let his wife take centre stage by donning a basic yet timeless black tuxedo with shawl lapels and a sizable black bow tie.

Besides the ‘I’m pregnant news’, Williams made a show at the 2023 Met Gala whose driving force is the opulence in the fashion industry.

Serena follows in the steps of Ash Barty who retired in 2022 and is also expecting her first child in 2023.

Barty who staged a successful tennis comeback in 2021 by winning the year’s Australian Open, took to Instagram to break the news.

She posted a photo of her dog, Origi guarding a pair of baby trainers.

“2023 set to be the best year yet. We are so excited for our new adventure. Origi already the protective big sister,” read the post which her husband Garry Kissick’s personal Instagram account also posted.

Barty tied the knot with Kissick in July 2022, six months after retiring from tennis.
