- Life for Corinna Schumacher for the last 10 years mirrors that of a prisoner
- Michael Schumacher had a skiing accident in December 2013
- His family never talks about his medical state but medical experts doubt he’ll ever recover fully
Life for Corinna Schumacher for the last 10 years mirrors that of a prisoner since her husband’s accident Michael Schumacher in 2013, her friend Eddie Jordan implores.
According to Jordan, Corinna keeps to herself most times, turning down parties and lunches just to avoid questions on how the legendary Formula One driver is fairing.
The German F1 driver sustained life-threatening injuries in December 2013 following a skiing accident and was put into a medically induced coma.
Then, in September 2014, he was relocated to the family’s Lake Geneva home, where a group of medical professionals now assist his wife Corinna in caring for him.

Jordan, who has a tenuous relationship with the Ferrari legend, stated last year that Michael Schumacher’s family had approved of his plans to pay the seven-time Formula One world champion a visit.
Speaking to OLBG, Jordan said that Schumacher’s accident in Méribel situated in the French Alps changed Corinna’s life in a big way.
The still celebrated F1 driver had his ski helmet on at the time of the accident but the impact of the fall was too huge. He crashed his head against a rock while attempting to cross an off-piste section.
“This was the most horrific situation for Mick and Corinna. It’s been nearly ten years now and Corinna has not been able to go to a party, to lunch or this or that. She’s like a prisoner because everyone would want to talk to her about Michael when she doesn’t need reminding of it every minute,” he remarked during the interview.
With a decade in bed, Schumacher in the past referred to his 54-year-old wife as his “guardian angel”. He said that Corinna expertly manages to shun away any unwanted noises around him.
Schumacher’s big break in Formula One came in 1991 at the Jordan Grand Prix – hosted by Jordan. Despite their closeness, Corinna still couldn’t allow him to visit her husband which is why Schumacher’s family had to veto his visit after many years of requests.

While Corinna has avoided discussing her spouse in public, she provided some insight into her hardships in a documentary on his life that aired in 2022.
Corinna admits that while Schumacher remains bedridden, the family gets strength in seeing him alive.
The family does everything possible to see its head recover and make him feel a part of the family but it is not always easy.
They do things the way he would just do them to pass on the bond feeling of his family.
‘We’re together. We live together at home. We do therapy. We do everything we can to make Michael better and to make sure he’s comfortable. And to simply make him feel our family, our bond,” Corinna opines in the documentary.
The matriarch of the Schumacher family adds that they keep matters about family affairs private because that’s what is best for them. She maintains that the once-decorated Ferrari driver always protected his family and kept it private and now their turn to do that for him.
