Footballers of average height find it easier to be creative compared to their tall counterparts. But that does not mean that the tallest footballers are not good.

In fact, some tall players have done wonders on the pitch. A perfect example is Stoke City legend Peter Crouch who stands 6 ft 7 in (2.01 m).

The England international played as a striker and was a nightmare to defenders. He is one of the only 33 players to score 100 Premier League goals.

Crouch knew how to use his height perfectly when it came to aerial balls. In fact, he holds the record for the most headed goals in Premier League history.

But the former footballer is not the only tall player who has impressed fans on the pitch. In fact, Crouch does not make it to the top ten list of tallest footballers in the world. Let’s find out who they are in descending order.

10. Oyvind Hoas – (Height 6 ft 8 in)

Oyvind Hoas is the tenth tallest football player in the world. The Norwegian international stands 6 ft 8 in (2.03 m) and plays as a striker.

He has been playing for Kristiansund since joining the team in 2015.

9. Even Iversen – (6 ft 8 in) 

Even Iversen is 6 ft 8 in (2.03 m) tall. He has spent his entire football career playing in Norway for Hasle-Loren Idrettslag.

He previously played at the academies of Oslo East and Flakstad.

8. Kjell Petter Opheim – ( 6 ft 8 in) 

Kjell Petter Opheim, one of the tallest footballers in the world, is 6 ft 8 in tall. He stands the same height as his fellow Norwegian footballers mentioned above.

Kjell Petter plays as a goalkeeper for Stryn Football. He has received compliments for making good saves during matches.

Before joining Stryn, Kjell previously played for 1983 Norwegian Cup winners Moss FK. He also had a short stint with two-time Norwegian Premier League winners Lyn Football.

7. Costel Pantilimon – (Height 6 ft 8 in) 

Costel Pantilimon is 6 ft 8 in tall. The Romanian footballer plays as a goalkeeper. He had stints in the Premier League playing for Manchester City, Sunderland and Watford.

Pantilimon is currently a free agent, having last played for Denizlispor. The 35-year-old made appearances for the Romanian national team between 2008 and 2017.

6. Lacina Traore – (6 ft 8 in) 

Lacina Traore is the only African in the list of the top ten tallest footballers. He has the nicknames ‘Gentle Giant’ and ‘The Big Tree’ due to his 6 ft 8 in height.

Lacina has played for several teams in Europe, including Everton, Monaco and CSKA Moscow. The talented forward last played for the Portuguese club Varzim.

5. Tor Hogne Aaroy – (Height 6 ft 8 1/2 in) 

Tor Hogne Aaroy is a former Norwegian footballer who played for teams such as Spjelkavic IL, Frigg, and Rosenburg.

The 45-year-old stands 6 ft 8 1/2 in and was the tallest footballer in FIFA 15 video game.

4. Yang Changpeng – (6 ft 8 1/2 in) 

Yang Changpeng was dubbed Chinese Peter Crouch when he arrived in England for trials with Bolton Wanderers.

He failed the trials and returned back to China. The 33-year-old has since played for several teams in his country.

3. Vanja Ivesa – (Height 6 ft 9 in) 

Vanja Ivesa is a retired Croatian goalkeeper who played for several teams, including Istra, Rijeka, Novalja, Sydney United, Pula and Opatija. 

On February 17, 2018, Vanja set a record by becoming the oldest player to ever play in the Croatian First Football League.

2. Paul Millar – (6 ft 10 in)

The next player on the list of tallest footballers is Paul Millar. The 34-year-old is most notably remembered for his time with Elgin City.

Paul Millar last played professional football in 2016 for Deveronvale. However, he is not yet retired.

1. Kristof van Hout – (Height 6 ft 10 in) 

Kristof van Hout is the tallest footballer in the world. The 35-year-old goalkeeper measures a monstrous 6 ft 10 in.

Kristof currently plays for Lommel, having previously played for Genk, Kortrijk, Standard Liege, Delhi Dynamos, Westerlo and Willem II.
