Gauff is hoping for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to compete during the same era as one of her heroes, Serena Williams before the 41-year-old hangs up her racquet.
Typically, young athletes never get to play within the same timeframe as their heroes.
During a previous press conference held at the National Bank Open, the 19-year-old tennis player was questioned about the impending retirement of her idol.
“I’m a little bit sad because I’ve always wanted to play her. I’m hoping my draw at Cincinnati or the US Open or even here can work out so we can play.” Gauff said
During the course of her career thus far, Coco Gauff has competed against notable opponents such as Naomi Osaka, Ashleigh Barty, and Iga Swiatek, among others.
On the other hand, she has not yet had the opportunity to speak with the queen of the court.
Despite how difficult it was for her to make a choice to end her tennis career, Williams highlighted her impending retirement by saying “the countdown has begun” in the heartbreaking article that was published in Vogue.
However, despite the fact that Williams has mentioned that the US Open will be her final tournament, there is no definitive date for when the 23 Grand slam winner will entirely step away from the court.
