Chelsea Vs Tottenham

After winning the first leg of their tie 4-1 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium back in November, Chelsea were the more confident side playing at Stamford Bridge last night. The Blues created several chances within the opening quarter-hour of the match.

Nicolas Jackson had a one-on-one effort thwarted by Guglielmo Vicario before Mykhailo Mudryk missed several opportunities from close range. The hosts continued to probe and eventually had their efforts pay off in the 24th minute when Conor Gallagher’s free-kick was directed into the back of the net by Trevoh Chalobah.

Despite conceding, Spurs still couldn’t find their way back into the match and allowed Chelsea to continue attacking. The visitors had only one big opportunity in the first period and it fell to Cristian Romero, whose header went wide. Postecoglou was becoming impatient with his players and even showed signs of frustrations on the touchline before the break.

Determined to find the equalizer, Spurs came back looking energized at the start of the second period. Richarlison came close to opening the scoring but his near post effort failed to go in. Pedro Porro saw his cross turned shot parried away by Dorde Petrovic.

With time running out, it was Chelsea that had the final say in this match, thanks to Nicolas Jackson who looped a header into the top corner. This was after Cole Palmer’s free-kick had hit the woodwork.

Postecoglou Takes Responsibility For Spurs Defeat

Tottenham Hotspur suffered their third straight defeat last night during the Chelsea vs Tottenham match. Ange Postecoglou’s side suffered a 4-0 humiliation at Newcastle United and then lost 3-2 to Arsenal over the weekend before last night’s defeat.

The three consecutive defeats have dented Spurs’ hopes of qualifying for next season’s UEFA Champions League. Ange Postecoglou took responsibility for the defeat against Chelsea

“It wasn’t a great night. We didn’t have the mindset that I expect us to have, so that’s on me, I’ve got to take responsibility for that. Ultimately I’m the one that’s putting them out there and preparing them for it. We were so far off it I’ve got to look at myself and see how I’m preparing this team for it.” Ange Postecoglou is quoted by Sky Sports.

Next up for Tottenham is third-placed Liverpool at Anfield Stadium on Sunday.
