  • He replaced Jose Mourinho as the manager at AS Roma
  • His contract has been extended three months after he was appointed

Daniele De Rossi’s contract at AS Roma has been extended, three months after he was appointed as the club’s manager. This announcement was made by the club owners Ryan Friedkin and Dan.

He was appointed in January 2024, taking over from Jose Mourinho who was fired after the club was placed ninth and was at a risk of missing out on qualifying for Europe. Under his tenure, the club has managed fifth place and is in contention for a Champions League.

Since he joined the club, they have played 16 games across all competitions and won 11, went on draw in three and only lost two. This is a great improvement to the team in such a short period under his management and with his contract extension, there is hope that the team will be able to scale to greater heights.

In their recent match against AC Milan, Roma held a 1-0 lead from their first leg and this is an encouragement seeing the team’s performance rise in a short period since he joined them and with support, he will be able to lead them to more successful competitions.

Daniele De Rossi

Daniele De Rossi is an Italian football icon who is forty years old. His love for football was evident from a young age as his father was a coach for Roma’s youth academy, and this influenced him to play at the youth academy.

He played as a striker before transitioning to a midfielder and his talent progressed through the ranks, making his professional debut for the season. He secured his place in the starting line-up.

Rossi spent his entire 18-year professional playing career with the club  making 616 appearances and scoring 63 goals, became a true leader on and off the pitch and this earned him the name Capitan Futuro.

His talent became limited to club play as he was called up to the Italian national team where he made 117 appearances and scored 21 goals in a span of thirteen years. While playing for the Italian national team, he conquered the world at the 2006 FIFA World Cup.

With Roma, he lifted trophies including two Coppa Italia titles and a Supercoppa Italiana and was awarded individually as the Italian Athlete in 2007.

He called it quits in 2019 and transitioned into coaching. He began as an assistant coach for the Italian national team before taking the head coach position at SPAL in 2022. His heart was still with Roma and he returned two years later taking the helm as their head coach.

Three months in the managerial of the team, so much transformation has happened and the owners of the team  have rewarded him with a contract extension with the hope of uplifting their team to more successful competitions.

De Rossi’s tenure as AS Roma Manager and contract extension

De Rossi’s tenure  began in January 2024 after Jose Mourinho was sacked due to poor performance of the club. He has overseen a very successful start to his managerial career at the club and in his first 10 games, he achieved an impressive record of 8 wins, 1 draw and only one loss.

His play of style is free-flowing and this seems to be resonating with the players who are comfortable and delivering their best. Having played for the club for quite a long time, he is also likely to be conversant with the team’s demands and also knows the players individually and what each of them is capable of. This likely contributes to a positive team spirit and motivation within the squad.

His biggest test so far was the Europa League where he successfully navigated some challenging ties. However, how he handles the pressure of Serie A competition remains to be seen.

When he took  over, Roma was Languishing in ninth place and his immediate challenge was to maintain their current good form and secure a Champions League qualification spot. The owners of the club have now extended his contract for  his good performance.
