  • He is a Belgian professional footballer
  • He plays as a midfielder for Manchester City
  • Mateo Kovacic subbed him during their match against Real Madrid

Kevin De Bruyne requested to be substituted due to fatigue in a Manchester City match against Spanish giants Real Madrid in the Champions League after their quarter-final tie ended in a 1- draw with Real Madrid winning on penalties.

De Bruyne scorched Manchester City’s only goal and due to fatigue, he and Haaland requested to be subbed off in the 112th minute of extra time. It was an unusual incident as he is always the penalty taker for his team and being substituted meant that he was not available for the shootout.

It was not easy for manager Pep Guardiola seeing his key players tiring, making it difficult to break through Real Madrid’s defense. Julian Alvarez replaced Haaland in the 90th minute and participated in both regular and extra time, including the penalty shootout where he successfully converted his penalty while Mateo Kovacic came in for De Bruyne in the 112th minute of extra time.

Kevin De Bruyne’s biography

Kevin De Bruyne is one of the best midfielders that Manchester City has. He also plays and captains the Belgium national team. His career journey began at KRC Genk when he was seventeen years old.

His impressive performance with Genk including a league title and numerous assists caught the eye of Chelsea but his time at the club was limited, and was loaned to Werder Bremen in Germany where he blossomed.

During his loan stint at Werder Bremen, he performed exemplary well and this led to a permanent move to VfL Wolfsburg where he became a key player who broke the Bundesliga assist record in the 2014/15 season.

On recognizing his talent, Manchester City signed him under manager Pep Guardiola who helped him adapt to the team’s play style and he became the maestro in their attacking midfield and since then, he has been part of the team’s Premier League titles, League titles, domestic cups and Champions League runs.

He also represents the Belgium national team and made his debut in 2010. He is currently the team’s captain and played a role in their third place finish at the 2018 World Cup and has consistently been a key figure in major tournaments.
