Bukayo Saka,  Arsenal’s winger sustained an injury in a match between his team and Arsenal on Sunday, leaving his boss Mike Arteta with fitness concerns. The winger limped out of Arsenal’s goalless draw at Manchester City.

It was his first match after a recovery from a minor muscle injury and withdrew from the England squad during the international break. He was able to start but was subbed off in the 78th minute with what was reported as fatigue.

The match was one of the most anticipated clashes and ended in a 0-0 draw. His boss Mike Arteta has given an update on his injury, ahead of the home clash with Luton this Wednesday. However, he did not confirm if Saka will be ready to start.

In his statement, he assured Saka’s fans that he is fine and they have trained him as he recovers, but yet to know if he will be in a good condition to start the game. This is a race against time for the 22-year old to prove his fitness as the gunners hope to have him for another season.

Bukayo saka biography

The 22-year-old was born in Ealing, London to Nigerian parents in 2021. His family immigrated to London in search of greener pastures. He grew up playing football in a local club known as Greenford Celtic.

His professional career began on joining Arsenal’s Hale End academy when he was only eight years old and rose through the ranks where he played alongside stars like Emile Smith Rowe. He made his professional debut for Arsenal in 2018 and became the second youngest player in the Europa League that time.

Initially, he played as a left-back but later transitioned to a winger and became a vital part of Arsenal’s starting lineup. He has also represented the England national team internationally since 2020 and he was England’s top scorer in the World Cup qualifying 2022, and even scored a hat-trick in a recent qualifier for Euro 2024.

Beyond football, he is a vocal advocate against racism and discrimination, using his platform to promote positive change. The winger recently signed a long-term contract with Arsenal, signifying his commitment to the club.

Saka’s injury concerns

Saka has missed some matches due minor muscle concerns. He  missed the last two England friendlies before Gareth Southgate’s squad announcement for Euro 2024, the matches were played in late March.

The first match was between England and Brazil while the other was between England and Belgium. As most sources indicate, he has been dealing with fatigue and minor muscle issues and the England team alongside Arsenal decided  it was best for him to withdraw from the friendlies as a precaution to recover fully.

Fortunately, the issue was not serious and he recovered quickly, giving him room to rejoin Arsenal for their Premier League match against Manchester City on 31st March 2024.

In the match between Arsenal and Manchester City, he started but was subbed off in the 78th minute with what was reported as fatigue and a minor muscle issue. Despite the concerns, he was named in the starting lineup for the crucial Premier League clash.

The fact that he was subbed off suggests that the fatigue or muscle issue might have impacted his performance or limited his effectiveness later in the game. His manager confirmed that the winger was feeling the fatigue and hadn’t trained much before the match.
