  • Victor recently signed a contract with Napoli till 2026 and the club is reluctant to sell him readily
  • Manchester United are also interested in Osimhen
  • If Napoli continues performing well, Osimhen might remain with the club

Victor Osimhen is a Nigerian professional footballer who plays as a striker for club Napoli and the Nigeria national team and has attracted some interest from Chelsea and Manchester United on a transfer window this January 2024.

Victor was born in Lagos, Nigeria on December 29 1998 and is the youngest in a family of six children. His growing up was filled with poverty but he beat the odds by working on his passion of being a successful professional footballer. Osimhen began playing football in the streets, eventually earning a place at the Ultimate Strikers Academy where he caught the attention of scouts.

He joined the Nigeria national team and his turning point came about when he led the Nigeria U-17 team to victory at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile, a performance that opened opportunities to Europe, and then he signed with German club VfL Wolfsburg.  His play time with the club was not smooth as he suffered injuries and was sent on loan to Belgian club and this led to a move to French club Lille.

On joining Lille, his first season was full of success and played a vital role in their championship win which earned him a move to Italian Serie A giants Napoli.

How has Victor Osimhen’s career journey been?

Victor Osimhen’s career journey is a remarkable one from humble beginnings to stardom. Growing up in a poor background and playing in the dusty streets, his passion for football burned brightly and secured a place in one of the local clubs’ academies where his talent was spotted. It is in this academy that he was called up by the Nigeria national team and represented them at the U17 World Cup, where he won a Golden Boot and a Silver Ball. This performance paved the way for him to go to Europe.

On getting to Europe, the striker signed with a German club VfL Wolfsburg though he suffered injuries that slowed his progress and was sent on loan stints at Belgian club  Charleroi and French club Lille, which was a breakthrough to Serie A.

St Lille, the striker played a key role in their Ligue 1 championship win, which earned him a move to Italian giants Napoli where he currently plays and has won the hearts of the fans with his performance, and also helped the team challenge Serie A title and compete in the Champions League.

The striker is also a key player for the Nigeria national team and has played in two Africa Cup of Nations tournaments. His journey is an inspiring tale of resilience, his determination propelling him from humble beginnings to footballing stardom.

What is Osimhen’s next move in 2024?

It is not easy to predict the striker’s next move since he is on a contract with Napoli until 2026, with a high release clause and the club could be reluctant to sell him immediately, bearing in mind that he is valuable to the team.

However, they might be open to negotiations based on some factors like his desire and preferred destination which will play a crucial role, Napoli’s financial situation and their performance in the second half of the season could also influence their stance. Another factor to consider is the transfer market landscape and other clubs’ activity might also impact negotiations.

So far, Premier League giants like Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool have shown some interest in signing him. Real Madrid is also reportedly plotting a move for him, the high transfer fee and Napoli’s possible resistance could be the barriers.

In conclusion, it is not possible for a January transfer due to Napoli’s reluctance and the financial challenges for potential buyers but the most probable one is a summer transfer if the potential clubs get to an agreement. All the same, he might opt to remain at Napoli if the club performs well.

My passion is capturing the untold journey of global athletes from humble beginnings to superstars in their own right.
