Sheikh Mansour clubs acquisition traces back to September 2008. He acquired Manchester City Football Club from the former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra. Successful takeover negotiations by the Abu Dhabi United Group made him a first-time owner of a football club in England.

It inspired the birth of City Football Group in 2014 which now owns 13 clubs spread across Asia, Middle East, North America, South America and Europe. The most surprising thing about him is he has attended only two Manchester City games. His first was in 2010 the most recent being the 2023 UEFA Champions League final in Turkey which the club won.

The shareholders of CFG which owns Manchester City have 13 football clubs. The man of the moment in the group is its founder, the Emirati of the UAE. But who is Sheikh Mansour?

His full name is Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, born in November 1970 in Abu Dhabi. Manosour is an Emirati royal and prominent politician. He holds the position of minister of the presidential court and is a member of the ruling family of Abu Dhabi.

He is the brother of the current president of the UAE, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. In addition to his political roles, Manosour is a billionaire with diverse business interests. Through the City Football Group, he holds stakes in various football clubs.

He is actively involved in government-run companies in the UAE, serving as the chairman of the Ministerial Development Council, the Emirates Investment Authority, and the Emirates Racing Authority.

The Emirati billionaire also holds positions on the boards of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA), and is the chairman of Mubadala Investment Company, the Emirati state-owned sovereign wealth fund. Furthermore, he is the chairman of the Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates.

Notably, Sheikh Mansour clubs is the owner of the Abu Dhabi United Group (ADUG). ADUG is an investment company representing the Abu Dhabi royal family.
