The Serbian was defending his Australian Open 2023 title but Sinner was in his element at the Rod Laver Arena.

The Italian used his strength and accuracy to break again for a 5-1 lead after winning Djokovic’s opening service game. Sinner then served out a flawless first set in 35 minutes.

The Melbourne crowd was left in utter disbelief seeing Djokovic struggle so much on Rod Laver Arena There have never been more Grand Slam victories by a male player after dropping the first set—46 to be exact.

But Djokovic’s task got more difficult during a second set in which he was unable to stop the unintentional blunders.

Sinner continued to return well but Djokovic’s level slightly improved in the third set as both men looked solid on serve.

Djokovic edged a tense tie-break after saving a match point and Sinner, who was flawless all along cruised into the fourth set with new stamina.

The Italian reset impressively to force three break points in Djokovic’s first service game which the Serb saved – before Djokovic blew a 40-0 lead to hand over another break for 3-1, which proved decisive.

Sinner has been playing at his best since the ATP Finals in Turin which he won in yet another encounter with Djokovic.

However, he credits his victory to lessons from his Wimbledon loss.

“The confidence from the end of last season has, for sure, kept the belief I can play against the best players in the world and I’m really happy I can play in my first final,” said Sinner. I learned a lot from that defeat at Wimbledon and it is all part of the process,” he said after the match.
