Whether you are a football, cricket, boxing, golf or tennis fan, there are plenty of sporting events in 2024 to look forward to. Sports is one of the most popular forms of entertainment and every year billions of people around the world go to stadiums or tune in to their TVs to see their favourite teams or players in action.

2023 was a fantastic year to the sporting world, but with events such as Olympics set to return, we expect next year to be more interesting. Without further ado, let’s take a look at the major sporting events in 2024.

1. Olympic Games 

The Paris Olympics is undoubtedly the biggest sports event in 2024. From footballers to tennis players and top athletes from other sports disciplines, everyone’s focus will be in Paris from 26 July to 11 August. According to BBC Sports, there will be about 10,500 athletes competing in 329 events across 32 sports.

This will be the first time that fans see the sport of breaking at the Olympics. Olympics happen once in every four years and is one that you don’t want to miss.

2. UEFA Euro

Football fans around the globe are in for full entertainment next year. Among the major sporting events in 2024 for football fans is UEFA Euro, which will kick off on 14 June in Germany. Some of the teams to watch out at the competition are Portugal, France, Germany and last year’s finalists England. The final of the month long tournament will be played on 14 July.

3. Africa Cup of Nations 

The 2024 edition of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is scheduled to be hosted by Ivory Coast. Africa’s biggest football stars such as Mohammed Salah, Sadio Mane, Achraf Hakimi and Riyad Mahrez will be entertaining the football world from 13 January to 11 February when the final will be played.

4. Copa America 

Whereas European countries will be playing at the Euros during the summer, American countries will be competing for the Copa America title. The tournament will be held in the USA from 20 June to 14 July and will feature big names in the football, including Lionel Messi, Vincius Jr, Darwin Nunez and Angel Di Maria.

5. AFC Asian Cup

The AFC Asian Cup is another major international tournament that will be taking place in Qatar after the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The intercontinental tournament will see some of Asia’s most talented footballers go head-to-head. From Son Heung-min and Hwaang Hee-chan of the Republic of Korea, Takefusa Kubo of Japan and Mehdi Taremi of Iran to Wu Lei of China, the list of stars who are expected to shine at the Asian Cup is long. The 2024 edition of the Asian Cup will start on 12 January and will go until 10 February when the final will be played. 

6. Super Bowl LVIII 

The Super Bowl is one of the major sporting event in 2024 to look forward to. Super Bowl LVIII will take place on 11 February and will be hosted at the Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada. This will be the first time that the Super Bowl, which is the championship game for the National Football League, will be played in the state of Nevada.

7. T20 World Cups 

2024 brings back one of cricket’s biggest events – the T20 World Cup. There will be two World Cups this year, with the men’s tournament being held in the United States and West Indies from 4 to 30 June and the women’s tournament taking place in Bangladesh from September to October.

Whereas England men will be hoping to defend their title, Australia will be clear favourites to defend their title in the women’s competition.

8. Tyson Fury Vs Oleksandr Usyk 

Meanwhile, the boxing world will be treated to what will be arguably one of the biggest fights of the decade when Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk face each other in the heavyweight division. The fight is scheduled to take place on 17 February in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The winner of the fight will become boxing’s first undisputed world heavyweight champion since 1999.
