Serena Williams Retirement

She retired after the 2022 US Open in August. Serena prefers to think of her departure from tennis as an “evolution” rather than a “retirement,” a term she dislikes.

In an exclusive interview with Vogue, she explained that “evolution” feels like a more accurate description of her current transition. Her focus gradually shifted away from tennis and towards new priorities.

She spent most of her time off the court over the previous three years preparing for the day she would decide to move on. She founded Serena Ventures, a venture capital firm, and making investments in numerous firms during this time as an exit plan.

However, she also mentioned that one of the main reasons she decided to hang her rackets was because she intended to have more kids after retirement.

She gave birth to her first daughter, Alexis Olympia in 2017. A year after retiring, she delivered her second daughter Adira River Ohanian.

Serena shared a photo with her newborn baby on her arms flanked by her husband Alexis Ohanian and her eldest daughter Olympia Jr.

“Welcome, Adira River Ohanian. I’m grateful to report our house is teaming with love: a happy & healthy newborn girl and happy & healthy mama,” read a part of the message.

“’Feeling grateful. @serenawilliams you’ve now given me another incomparable gift — you’re the GMOAT. Thanks to all the amazing medical staff who took care of my wife & our daughter. I’ll never forget the moment I introduced @olympiaohanian to her baby sister. Your peace would have been like a river, your well-being like the waves of the sea,” his message read.
