Born to parents who once athletes, the spirit of sports was invoked in Kim Min-jae when he was still a small boy. Kim played his youth football at school. While at university, he made the decision to drop out so as to pursue his dreams of becoming a professional footballer.
On 1 July 2016, he joined Gyeongju KHNP and made 15 appearances until the end of the regular season. Due to Kim’s impressive performance at KHNP, he was signed by Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors, with whom he won the K League 1 in 2017 and 2018.
Kim then spent two seasons at Beijing Guoan before moving to Europe in the summer of 2021 and joining Turkish club Fenerbhace. Following a defensive masterclass, he signed with Italian side Napoli and went on to win the Serie A title.
