A superb display by Brighton helped them secure a 4-2 victory over Tottenham Hotspur during Thursday’s Brighton vs Tottenham fixture. Spurs dominated the early possession but found themselves trailing when Jack Hinshelwood opened the scoring for the hosts after eleven minutes of play.

Joao Pedro doubled Brighton’s lead in the 23rd minute from the penalty spot after Dejan Kulusevski fouled Danny Welbeck in the box. Pervis Estupinan then fired a superb effort shortly after the hour mark to increase the visitors lead to 3-0. Pedro appeared in the scoresheet once again in the 75th minute when he sent Spurs goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario the wrong side from the penalty spot after Evan Ferguson was fouled.

Tottenham Hotspur failed to record even a single shot on target in the first half, but were impressive in the last minutes of the game as they scored two goals. It looked as if a comeback was going to happen at the Amex Stadium but Brighton defended firmly after conceding twice.

Whereas Tottenham missed the chance to get into the top four, Brighton went above Newcastle United on the standings and are currently eighth with 30 points. Brighton have increased their unbeaten run at home to eight matches.

Speaking after last night’s victory, Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi said his side played well before conceding in the 81st minute.

We played fantastic football for 80 minutes and then we were unlucky in the first goal we conceded. I think this season it was the best performance. Not just for Joao Pedro and Billy Gilmour, I am speaking in general for Brighton… I am really lucky to be this coach of this team with these players. I am very pleased with the passion they have, they have everything. You can’t forget we are Brighton. Sometimes they forget we are Brighton.” Roberto De Zerbi is quoted by BBC Sports

Brighton Vs Tottenham

Seven days without a game has been a luxury for Brighton this season as they experience European football for the first time, and they used the break well to prepare for Spurs. After allowing Tottenham to control the game in the opening stages, they began to attack.

Well, it wasn’t long before teenager Jack Hinshelwood scored a brilliant goal to open the scoring for the hosts. The 18-year-old’s goal was assisted by Joao Pedro, who then had his own from the penalty spot in the 23rd minute. This was after Dejan Kulusevski held Welbeck’s shirt in the box leading to a penalty.

Brighton continued to attack, with James Milner hitting the post and Vicario doing well to stop Pedro’s effort. Spurs struggle to create chances were evident in the first half, but that was not the case after the break. Richarlison hit the post and continued knocking on the door afterwards. The Brazilian, who has been crucial for Spurs in the past few games, did score twice at Amex but his goals were ruled out for offside.

When it seemed as though Spurs were about to find their way back into this game, Brighton’s Pervis Estupinan announced his return from injury with a superb goal from nearly 30 yards out. A poor challenge on Ferguson later on by Lo Celso led to a second penalty in the match, which Pedro scored.

Ange Postecoglou’s team has scored in every league game this season, and you could sense that they were going to have a goal despite being 4-0 down. Alejo Veliz pulled one back for the visitors in the 81st minute before Ben Davies added a second four minutes later. However, the late rally couldn’t save Spurs and it was 4-2 at full-time.
