Cristian Romero injury is a big blow to Ange Postecoglou and his depleted Tottenham Hotspur team. According to reports, injury-hit Spurs face losing  Romero for up to five weeks after it was confirmed that the 25-year-old suffered a hamstring strain.

Romero was taken off at half-time in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Everton, sparking fear over his availability. Speaking during the press conference ahead of Spurs clash with Brighton on Thursday, Ange Postecoglou said Romero had a scan and could be out for several weeks.

[It’s] disappointing to lose [Romero], for sure. He had a scan the other day and has got a hamstring strain. We are looking at probably four or five weeks for him.” Ange Postecoglou said in his press conference, as per BBC Sports

Since joining Tottenham in the summer of 2022, Romero has been a key player for the Premier League club. He has particularly been impressive under Postecoglou, with the Argentine playing a crucial role in Spurs’ red-hot form at the start of this season.

After Romero was sent off in Tottenham’s 4-1 loss to London rivals Chelsea in the Premier League in November, Postecoglou’s side picked just a single point in the next three matches that the World Cup winner missed.

We obviously missed him with the suspension and now we’ve just got him back and he steadied things up. Now he will be missing again for quite a chunk of time.” Postecoglou added.

Spurs Injury List Continues To Grow

Cristian Romero injury is not the only obstacle that the London side are facing in the race for the Premier League title this season. Spurs already lost Romero’s centre-half partner Micky van de Ven, who has been injured since November 6 also with a hamstring strain.

Whereas Romero could be out for up to five weeks, Postecoglou is hopeful that van de Ven will be back in time to face Manchester United.

“I wouldn’t be taking players’ views on their recovery process! He’s getting closer, we’ll see him sometime in January. I don’t think Burnley but Manchester United on the 14th I think potentially. But again, I don’t look at comeback dates until I see them training with us and he’s not part of the group. He’s not due to be part of the group this week, we’ll see how he’s going by the end of the week.” Ange Postecoglou is quoted by the Evening Standard.

In the absence of Romero and Micky van de Ven, Ange Postecoglou will have to choose between full-back Emerson Royal, out-of-favour Eric Dier or youngster Ashley Phillips to partner Ben Davies for the next three games. Spurs will be travelling t Brighton on Thursday ahead of their Premier League fixture later in the day. They will then host Bournemouth on New Year’s Eve before facing Burnley in the FA Cup third-round on January 5. Their two main centre-backs are expected to miss those games.

But it’s not only Spurs defence that has lost their key players – the other positions are also affected. James Maddison, Rodrigo Bentancur, Ivan Perisic, Manor Solomon and Ryan Sessegnon are also out due to long-term injuries.

In some good news about the injury concerns at Tottenham Hotspur, Richarlison is expected to play in today’s fixture against Brighton despite being substituted in the last match due to a back issue. The Brazilian has been on fire in the past three games, scoring four times and is back to training despite the injury concerns.
