Tottenham Hotspur battled back twice to hold Arsenal to a thrilling 2-2 draw in the North London derby of the Premier League at the Emirates Stadium.
Before Son Heung-min’s equalizer, Arsenal took a deserving lead thanks to a Cristian Romero own goal. Less than two minutes later, a Bukayo Saka penalty gave the Gunners the lead again. Both teams have now gone flawlessly to start the season.
How the game unfolded
Only three minutes had passed before Postecoglou’s team had the ball in the back of the goal, but Son was several yards offside when he tapped in Yves Bissouma’s errant shot from a corner.
Spurs were remaining true to their beliefs, but the Gunners quickly started to tighten the screws, and Tottenham was in need of two key stops from Guglielmo Vicario in a short period of time.

Prior to Destiny Udogie’s faulty pass putting Nketiah through, the Italian goalkeeper made a wonderful fingertip save to thwart Jesus’ back-post attempt in the 14th minute. Vicario then stopped the Englishman at his near post after Nketiah had been sent through.
Cristian Romero’s tragic own goal gave Arsenal the early advantage at the 26-minute mark. Just before halftime, though, Son swiftly equalized with a deft finish, giving the visitors new life.
Romero’s day continued to go south when he gave up a penalty, which Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka easily scored in the 54th minute. Son, though, showed his mettle once more by taking advantage of a mistake made by Jorginho, an Arsenal replacement, to draw the game once more.
Both teams had chances to seal the victory, with Son coming close to a hat-trick and Saka’s attempt being blocked. Both teams were unable to break the tie after ten minutes of added time, however, Richarlison of Tottenham went close with a deflected shot.

After the draw, both sides had six games under their belts and were still perfect in the league. Tottenham is currently in fourth position and Arsenal is in fifth, separated only by goal differential, yet they both dropped down the standings.
Despite applauding his team’s effort and criticizing their lack of composure, Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, expressed dissatisfaction that his side did not earn all three points. Son’s effort made sure that the match finished in a tie despite the departure of top scorer Harry Kane, who just moved to Bayern Munich, and the fact that Tottenham’s new manager Ange Postecoglou has instilled a new spirit throughout the team.
The game was tight throughout, with both teams just missing out on a victory. However, after the final whistle, the points were split, opening a thrilling new chapter in the history of the North London Derby.
