Posta Rangers players celebrate their win over Sofapaka.
  • Posta Rangers clinched their second consecutive win
  • Gor Mahia also remains unbeaten
  • Sharks, FC Talanta pick first wins of the season

Posta Rangers have moved top of the FKF Premier League standings after stunning Sofapaka 3-1 picking their second consecutive win of the season. The victory, following up a similar three-goal performance against Kenya Police FC just before the international break, takes the mailmen top of the standings with seven points.

After a goalless draw, Posta got their pedestal ahead with new signing Jackson Macharia scoring his second goal in as many matches. The former Tusker FC midfielder controlled the ball inside the box from a cross on the right before rifling it into the bottom right corner.

Another new signing, Peter Thiong’o, added the second minutes later when he sneaked in between the defenders to tap home a cross from Caleb Olilo.

The former AFC Leopards captain then completed his brace minutes later with a neat finish at the backpost.

Oliver Maloba would pull one back for Batoto ba Mungu in the dying minutes of the match, but it was too little too late as the mailmen had already secured their healthy victory.

Meanwhile, defending champions Gor Mahia also moved to seven points and are joint top of the log after a well worked 4-1 thrashing of Nairobi City Stars. Benson Omalla scored a brace for Kogalo, as they clinched their second consecutive victory.

Omalla breaks the deadlock for Gor

Omalla broke the deadlock early when he made the most of a poor clearance from City Stars off a corner, bungling the ball home from close range.

He completed his brace on the half hour mark with a low diving header off a cross on the right, as K’Ogalo ran rings around the flimsy City Stars backline.

New signing Rooney Onyango then made it 3-0 at the stroke of halftime, City Stars once again struggling in clearing their lines. The rightback stormed into the box then unleashed a low shot beating the keeper.

Former Gor forward Dennis Oalo pulled one back for Simba wa Nairobi with a left footed finish inside the box off a freekick, but their minute hopes of a comeback didn’t last long as Austin Odhiambo restored the three goal cushion with a simple finish inside the box after the City Stars backline struggled to clear a Boniface Omondi cross from the right.

Elsewhere, erstwhile league leaders Murang’a Seal were handed their first defeat of the season when they lost 1-0 to FC Talanta at the Ruaraka Complex.

Alex Juma scored a 90th minute winner for Talanta, who picked their first victory of the new campaign after back to back draws.

Sharks also pick first win of the season

In other matches, Kariobangi Sharks also picked their first win of the season after seeing off KCB 2-1 in the early kick off at the Kasarani Annex.

Harambee Stars rookie Stanley Wilson continued showing his qualities as he put Sharks ahead when he finished off a Geoffrey Onyango cross on the half hour mark. However, Francis Kahiro levelled matters for the bamkers just before halftime after a defensive lapse in the Sharks backline.

In the second half though, William Muluya’s men pushed in harder and Onyango completed a man of the match performance, scoring the winning goal with a deflected strike from the left.
